Declined EFTs?

What is your policy on declined efts? I have a few that will not approve and I was wondering how you handle them?

Re: Declined EFTs?

I usually call the client if it hasn't gone through within a couple days. Just basically tell them we need to verify their card information. I also post a balance due on their account so they must pay before tanning again.

If I have an email I will email them or wait till they come in. We also keep trying their card manually. If it does not go through when they come in there is a charge of $15 we charge them for their decline. Once I implemented the $15 charge we do not get many back.

Get what back? Customers? If it was me and a salon charge me $15 for something i never had, i certainly wouldn't be back and i'd certainly be telling all and sundry about the charge, maybe not the reason for the charge though lol.

Re: Declined EFTs?

We've only had it happen twice. There's really nothing you can do except ask them to pay up and don't let them tan again until they do. It's very annoying!

Re: Declined EFTs?

Our contract states any card that is declined is subject to a $15 redraft fee and if it is declined a second time is subject to a $30 fee. We just started EFT's last month so haven't had an issue yet, hopefully it won't happen too often.

Re: Declined EFTs?

We charge a $10 decline fee. If you don't charge them, they'll do it all the time. We have some months where 3 decline, and we have some months where 20 decline.

We call them and if it declines again the next month and we haven't heard from them, we terminate their membership.

Re: Declined EFTs?

I do not know about other salons but there is no real way to get the money when the card declines. I dont charge anything if the EFT declines. No ones is gonna come back to you salon if its been over a few days and they have to pay a fee and then the price of the month. I usually just prorate it so they keep coming in. It sucks but its worked for me.
