How often do you work in your salon weekly?
 

A lot of salon owners pull crazy hours to save on payroll or are just control freaks and have problems delegating work to be done.

Since I’m in the salon frequently, I’m able to Recognize the strengths and weaknesses of employees. This helps me to assign work to a particular staff member and know that the work will be done correctly.

I’m in the salon 5+ shifts per week. I’m blessed with frequent time off for family or leisure and a staff that genuinely likes their jobs. We have 4 PT staff and 2 As Needed Staff members on board- All of which have been with us for 1.5-2.5 yrs.

This summer, as well as last summer, really make me enjoy the business. The last two summers, I have had college students doing their internship here. They have to work 320 hours, which gives me almost the entire summer off. I work 6 hours on Monday and 4 hours on Tuesday and that's it. I pay them $150 a week, (required by the school) and I train them on how to run a small business. Next year, my wife will be retired from her full-time job, and I don't expect to be at the salon hardly at all; that is if we are still in business.

I'm here every morning with the exception of weekends. Unless I am training new staff i am out of here by three

I am a control freak!!! I have bed cleaners during afternoons and use them on as needed basis for days off when needed.

Monday - Wednesday - Friday 8am-2pm behind the counter.

Rest of the time I'm in and out and behind the scenes

I also pop in and out depending on the girl and what I am trying to catch her doing or not doing

Speaking of my intern, who was supposed to open at 10:00 today. I had a tux measure at 10:00 so I was there at that time. Well, my intern overslept and didn't get there until 10:45. Yesterday, I gave her the day off, so she and her boyfriend could go to a Twins game in Mpls. Too much partying all night and a hangover was inevitable. I told her one more screw-up and her easy internship will be over. They just don't understand how easy of an internship it is here.

I usually am at the salon Mon and Tues open-close. then wed, thurs and fri open til about 5. The weekends i usually have off unless there are call offs, which thankfully doesnt happen too often.

One day a week just to keep up on skills in the event I need to cover during a need.

I don/t work the front counter, but, I am at the Salon everyday, I see what is done and what has to be done.
