WE have a couple of girls that are awesome and do a great job. With the job market here we basically have an outstanding choice of employees. If/When things turn around that will probably change. With all that said, I am not sure our salon can make it without one of us working it some. Next busy season will tell... |

This works great because we are in a area with a lot of owner operated businesses and honestly thats what our clients like to see. I am in my mid-20s so it is great having my mother here since she is closer in age to a lot of my clients and they really relate to and like to chat with her. I used to have four high school/college girls who all worked a 1-2 days a week. That was honestly the most stressful time of my life. |

However I think it is a good idea to work the salon at least a third of the time at different shifts only to understand were your business is at on the customer front.

I'm in Va, we have several colleges near by. Last edited by galmarode@comca; 01-20-2011 at 02:25 PM. Reason: added info |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: How often do you work in your salon weekly? JASON months, I work much more to save salary costs. Busy months I work very little, but I am at the salon 3-4 times per week to make sure that my great staff is still great and to talk to clients and get some direct feedback on how we are doing. I can't imagine any owner who would not be in the salon at least 2-3 times a week to make sure things are going good. |

I work 2 days/week at one, she works 2 days/week at one, and we usually work 1 day each at the third location, and 1 day together there (as it's out of town and allows us to do all of the "backstage" work). We're fortunate to have great staff that maintain good averages, and this allows us to spend our time training, conducting sales meetings, and marketing the salons to keep people coming in the door. :) Also, the freedom of schedule allows us the ability to be "on call" during busy times if the staff feels "overwhelmed". :) |

My wife and I usually go in together to assist the staff and stay after hours for financials and operations, training & attention to detail maintainence & cleaning. It's cheaper to pay a staff $7.25-8.00/hr +5-10% commission than it is to pay a day care for three little children!! We would like to have a full-time spa director in place that can do what we want, but it is SO HARD to find "the one." Then we can purchase our second or third location... |
