Re: How often do you work in your salon weekly?

We haven't worked the salon in a few months. Complete absent owner at this point. WE have a couple of girls that are awesome and do a great job. With the job market here we basically have an outstanding choice of employees. If/When things turn around that will probably change.

With all that said, I am not sure our salon can make it without one of us working it some. Next busy season will tell...

Re: How often do you work in your salon weekly?

I work full time in my salon and at this point my only employee (my mother) works 25 hours a week.

This works great because we are in a area with a lot of owner operated businesses and honestly thats what our clients like to see. I am in my mid-20s so it is great having my mother here since she is closer in age to a lot of my clients and they really relate to and like to chat with her.

I used to have four high school/college girls who all worked a 1-2 days a week. That was honestly the most stressful time of my life.

I work as much as possible, but I'm a new business. I have come to learn that those tanning beds don't clean themselves, and I haven't found someone reliable enough to help me yet. Hopefully soon!

I work everyday only because I have no budget for employees. Is very slow. However I think it is a good idea to work the salon at least a third of the time at different shifts only to understand were your business is at on the customer front.

None, I finally have good staff. Although I do pop in randomly and am in constant contact with employees. My pop-ins are to check that things are being done and of course something breaks daily that needs my attention.

Everyday. Direct supervision with my staff is really important.

Cool Re: How often do you work in your salon weekly?

I'm at the salon 41 hours a week. How do you get involved with interns? Sounds like something I would like to do for my salon. I'm in Va, we have several colleges near by.

Re: How often do you work in your salon weekly?

JASON months, I work much more to save salary costs. Busy months I work very little, but I am at the salon 3-4 times per week to make sure that my great staff is still great and to talk to clients and get some direct feedback on how we are doing. I can't imagine any owner who would not be in the salon at least 2-3 times a week to make sure things are going good.

Re: How often do you work in your salon weekly?

We have 3 salons and split efforts. I work 2 days/week at one, she works 2 days/week at one, and we usually work 1 day each at the third location, and 1 day together there (as it's out of town and allows us to do all of the "backstage" work). We're fortunate to have great staff that maintain good averages, and this allows us to spend our time training, conducting sales meetings, and marketing the salons to keep people coming in the door. :)
Also, the freedom of schedule allows us the ability to be "on call" during busy times if the staff feels "overwhelmed". :)

Re: How often do you work in your salon weekly?

We have six part-time and one currently outside sales, b2b, & marketing. My wife and I usually go in together to assist the staff and stay after hours for financials and operations, training & attention to detail maintainence & cleaning. It's cheaper to pay a staff $7.25-8.00/hr +5-10% commission than it is to pay a day care for three little children!! We would like to have a full-time spa director in place that can do what we want, but it is SO HARD to find "the one." Then we can purchase our second or third location...
