Employee Salary? - tanTALK

We have recently opened a new salon in downtown Vancouver. The name is Cocoa Tanning Studio.

My wife and I are running it for now, but because I have another job and can only help out in the evening, we are finding it difficult to manage with the volume we are getting. We are looking to hire staff, but have no idea how much we should pay them.

Is the salary minimum wage?

Would you recommend just salary, or salary plus comissions?? comissions on packages, lotions? how much comission?

Congratulations on your salon.

I would strongly recommend you dig in and enjoy some reading - there is SO much here already written that will give you such great ideas - and help!

You can search on specific topics. Or just open up a forum and start skimming through looking for thread titles that seem interesting. Many of the forums have threads that have been "stickied" to stay at the top on the first page - because they contain information that many will find relevant.

I would reccomend starting employees at minimum wage with commision. We give 2% of all level 2,3,4, or 5 packages and 5%-10% on lotion. Otherwise they will not be motivated to sell.
