At our salon we do not get free tanning automatically. We get tans as incentive. For every EFT member you get a session in our best bed. For every so and so you get different levels of tanning. And you can use bonus bucks for the mystic.

I really like this. It gives the girls a motivation to sell sell sell not just for comission, but for their tans. They see their account and get excited when they have a new session to use. It gets rid of the "well I work
here so I can just tan for free whenever I want" attitude.

Does anyone else do this as well?

I give my employess free tanning and a good discount on lotions and they also get a lot of freebies on occasion. The're all pretty much motivated in general and appreciate everything and do good on commission.

remember your employees tan is their "uniform".

I, personally, think that employees should tan for free in any level (that's my policy). If they can only tan when they sell certain items, how white are they in slow season??? Wow. I want my employees dark. Tan sells tan. If they're not dark, people won't ask them what lotion they're using. My darkest employees always have higher sales.

It's not hard to earn tans. It's made so you can pretty much tan all month. The girls just have to sell an average number which is very low. And you make up for the slow season by selling a ton in the busy season. I know it doesn't sound too good but it is. It's not hard to earn the tans. People abused the free tan thing so it just works for us. I was just asking if anyone else did this as well.

I agree we need to have an image with a nice tan, but in this business higher wages are not supported so free tanning and discounts on products is an additional benefit we can afford to give to our great people.

There is a large chain here that does not let employees have ANY free tanning. The sad thing for that chain is that a few of those girls come to our salon to tan and pay me.

i agree your employees being tanned def benefits sales. we also allow our employees to tan for free and after their probation period their lotions are 1/2 off. we want customers to walk in and see a nice tanned employee behind the counter and we also find when our employees are off work and out on the town etc...people ask them where they tan...so it also = free promotion after hours :)

If it was me....i'd give free tanning in ONLY my highest beds like HP and would charge them to tan in anything else.

You want them using the best beds and the best lotions ALWAYS.

If they have to pay for it, you know they will be cheap.

So when customers come in and say, i want your colour, what do you use? They will say, i use the 20 minute base bed with the $20 Australian Gold Accelerator.

Or do you want them to say, i use the High Pressure bed with Devoted Vertu.

I never let employees tan in the base beds. Ever...I also encouraged them to tan. And never charged them. They would get 50% OFF bottles of lotions.
