Just a little FYI...In the future and depending on your next business venture,you can find out exactly who your competition will be long before they start the build out or even throw a sign up.The majority of businesses will require some build out unless the business was pre existing and there was no need for reconstruction.Building permits must be filed with the city and they are able to be accessed by the public.
I knew 6 months prior to 2 of my competitors opening shop.If you see a strip or plaza going up,you should be paying attention to what is going on.Both instances allowed me to upgrade equipment,dress up the salon and market it to the masses.

Small town politics does not trump public information.

Yes,
I concede. If those are the facts then the landlord pushed you off the curb into the bus. In the end sealed your fate and put himself in this position of having you go under and not making rent.

I suppose if he tried to come after you then it would be interesting to present the circumstances of what he did to the judge and see how he explains that.

Would be karma if he helped his friends out and they went under.
