Re: Crazy Coffee Idea?

This sounds like a great idea! Especially for winter.
Can someone share with me what the best coffee or capuccino is? How about a machine.

I drink neither one myself. Never drank anything from Starbucks. But, I'm all for providing it for my customers. And a little $1 extra wouldn't hurt per customer to cover the cost. Cookies can get expensive. Are they homemade? How do you keep the kiddos out of them?

Re: Crazy Coffee Idea?

If you decide to "sell" it then you will need to obtain a license for food handling and get a sanitary inspection. You will need a fixture for proper preparation and sanitation of materials and utensils. You are not going to be washing the pots in the bathroom/utility sink or the toilet. It has to be a designated area.

If you sell pre packaged sealed goods then you will not need that type of license. If you "give" it away then you will not need that type of license.

If you do sell coffee and snacks and prepare your own stuff and do not get thew appropriate license and inspections and proper fixtures for doing so then you will get banged for it and they can shut you down and fine you.

Make sure that you check with your local Board of Health and Township or Boro licensing office to cover all of the requirements that you will need to have to be compliant.

After that, then figure out the costs to install the required fixtures, costs of licenses and such and determine if it is really going to be profitable to put something like this in your tanning salon to make money. This goes for juice bars and such since it is all the same thing.

If it was all so profitable then all tanning salons would have them.

It is hard enough to get the staff to properly clean the beds and rooms, most are so lazy that the beds and floors are dirty. I go to a lot of places and this is the norm. Gum snapping friend texting lazy knowledge less clerks sitting on their a$$es instead of doing what they are paid to do.

I wouldn't even bother. Flops in every salon that tries to do food/snacks.

Stick to tanning.

Re: Crazy Coffee Idea?

Where I am from you can't sell beverages unless it is from a can or bottle (like coke and pepsi) without haveing a liscense. I think the place has to be inspected by FDA or some other orginization like that. I think you can give them away. I looked at doing the same thing or maybe even getting a coffee/capachino machine. You know the kind that instant powder is put in. I backed off by the extra lisc and inspecitons. I was told that you would be inspected like a rest or gas staion. I don't know but I still think it is a good idea. I would give it away if I were doing it.

Re: Crazy Coffee Idea?

Im thinking, Ask my regs what there fav hot drink is, certain type of tea, coffee, hot chocolate. Then I look at my appt book, if they are expected in, having the packet to make their fav drink ready up front. I was thinking of just doing hot water, then providing the packets. It makes it like a "I know what you like " value! Then also just providing a few options. My clients love sitting for 10 minutes and chatting with me when they get in. Not all of them but some are just not in a hurry!
