I think you took my reply the wrong way. I wasnt suggesting the Tanning industry doesnt make money. What I was saying is Jergens is a very large company and a very old company that has been around for a while. They have deep advertising pockets along with all the other companies that make sun screens like Coppertone. They run TV ads to advertise, their ads hit 10 million veiwers at one time or 10 million through a 1 page in a major publication like Vogue,Good Houskeeping. Wheather their products are crap or not or wheather the info they put out is accurate they get their message across to promote their products sales and if it a bad message about skin cancer and staying out of the sun people read it loud and clear.

Salon owners have to put out the positive message about tanning 1 customer at a time.Which makes it hard to compete. Now couple those messages with what Dermatoligist are saying bad about UV tanning, and the bad media reports like Katie Curics show 3 weeks ago which was veiwed by millions of people in the country and there is not way for you to keep up. They scare people not to even come to salon and you never get to tell those about about the good.And as long as they keep putting those ads out the more effective they will become. I was also hinting to the fact that maybe the Tanning industry as a whole needs to get together and start doing national TV and magazine ads to tell the public about the good of tanning and to combat the bad press they keep getting from the media and companies like Jergens and Coppertone because that is the only way to keep up.

I completely agree here, we need to stick together and make people aware of the positives. Problem is, how? People like myself run a small business and dont have that kind of money. i have loads of arguments for using them (safely) but people are just forced to listen to the people talking rubbish and most people are listening. You can twist statistics however you want, thats the problem.
