Anyone who is not an igornant human being will not listen to the gossip. If they do they are probably not the clients that you would like to have in your business. Let them gossip, and keep smiling. Don't acknowledge it, what comes around goes around. Other than that, there is really nothing else you can do. Except for to keep doing business as usual. They will eventually see that these things are lies, and see the truth.

I had something similar. A nicely worded C&D from my attorney nipped it in the bud. I guess they didn't realize MY customers were coming in and telling me every word they said ;)

I would get the letter. There are people who worry about spending money with a business that may not make it, think gift card stories from the beginning of the year. If there is a doubt in the customers mind it may limit your opportunity to maximize your sale.
