Rep Power: 0 | fell asleep in tanning bed We had a customer fall asleep in a tanning bed, her 12 minutes of tan were over and she never came around. My wife, who runs the salon was afraid to go into the room and check the tanner to see if she was ok. I arrived and called the police, ambulance, and fire department as i did not want to invade her privacy. When the fire department arrived, it had been approximately an hour since her tanning session had began and my wife went in the room with them. We had beat on the door and the wall next to that room. We had several other customers in the business at the time and were trying not to make to big of a scene. Luckily the 19 year old girl was ok but it seemed she was out in left field even when she came in. we have figured out now that if someone is out of it to befin with we shouldnt let them tan. Is there any help as to what we should do when a customer falls asleep and wont come out. it took a big firefighter to get this girl to come to. we are trying to figure out how to politely open a door on someone tanning. how long should we wait before we open the door or call for help? any advise is appreciated |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: fell asleep in tanning bed Happens from time to time in my salon in the winter time. People get all nice and cozy warm and fall asleep. How we handle it.... If it's quiet and we don't need the bed, let em sleep. (had a girl sleep 2 hours once) If we need the room, we knock, then lob pennies over the wall so it "ticks" off the top of the canopy and startles them. And if all else fails, if it's a guy, I'll pop the lock and just reach my hand in and nudge them, or we send in a girl to do the same if a female is in there. IMO, I try not to embarrass them anymore then we have too. Imagine if it was you and you fell asleep, only to be woken up by the police and firefighters. |

Rep Power: 17 | Re: fell asleep in tanning bed if you pound on the door and get no response, then its time to send someone in,theres nothing wrong with sending a woman in to check on a woman..A man to check on a man. They could be unconcious or even dead. Its a serious situation and if you follow protocal,no harm will be done. If the client needed medical assistance, only swift action might save them.Don't worry about embarrassment. |

Rep Power: 16 | Re: fell asleep in tanning bed That happened at my salon not too long ago. The girl's bed had been off for about a half an hour. I beat on her door, turned off the stereo and called her name, while banging on the door, everything. I was finally convinced that there was no way someone could still be in there, and they must have accidently locked the door and pulled it shut on their way out. I got a key, and carefully opened the door. I could see someone's head in the bed. So I just cracked the door, knocked again, HARD, and called her name. She didn't even budge! So then I was REALLY freaking out, and really thought she was dead. Finally, once last bang on the door and name calling, and she finally woke up! I think it scared me more than it bothered her! |

Rep Power: 17 | Re: fell asleep in tanning bed We had one pass out and must have whacked her head on the edge of the bed.Since it was in the back of the salon, neither I nor my girls heard anything. She was a regular and regularly out in 2-3 mins.7 min when by and no customer.I told one of my girls to go in and check on her..She was dressed, but unconcious.Turns out she gave blood in school and the heat must have caused her to pass out.Fortunately for us,she failed to mention that and admitted it to her mother. Now we have a sigh warning tanners of the potential. |
