Rep Power: 16 | Spray tan tech intimidated by booth I recently got some info from one of my other employees that my spray tan tech is feeling uneasy over our purhcase of a booth. I was going to put the following letter in with her paycheck. Do you think I should add anything? Kelsie had expressed that you were a bit concerned over the booth being purchased. My intention is not to eliminate your position or your hours. A spray tan done by a handheld unit under the watchful eye of a trained technician will always surpass the quality of a machine. So you understand for a business standpoint, for a long time now, we have been turning away a lot of business because we are not as available as we could be. The booth was purchased to give clients what they want, more availability/walk-in/etc. You are simply not available all day everyday and if you were, I could not afford to have you clocked in and waiting or hoping someone will walk in. I intend to have your hours remain in tact and if you would like more days, I’m more than happy to give them to you. Hopefully, the single cycle teeth whitening help in that area of business. Time will tell. I sincerely hope you don’t feel as if you are being pushed out or that your position is being eliminated. That is absolutely not what is happening. We are just being more diverse in our offering and will be able to cater to more clients. I know with each of our hours, we don’t cross paths very often, but if you want to talk about this more, let me know. I WILL make arrangements to meet you at the salon, go to dinner or whatever it takes. Thanks for all of you hard work. |

After reading your letter, although well formed and professional, I feel as though your communication skills with your employees are sub standard. Is it that difficult to arrange time to discuss important things with employees. I would make it a point to be present at the next scheduled tan... or at least make a phone call to avoid any uneasy employees. This is just my view.... but if I received a letter like that, I would feel as though you are moving toward eliminating my position, but you dont want to tell me this and you don't want me to leave until the booth is established. Just my view. |

I did not want her to fester over it through the weekend. She will be in today to get her check but she works another job and we never know when shes coming in. I don't feel as though my communication is sub standard. We communicate well and she is very open with her feelings. When I initially spoke to her about it, she made no mention of this to me. Maybe after thinking about it for a while this came on. If I haven't spoken to her before next week, I'll definately come in while she's here to talk. |

I really think this will go a really long way to improving your business as well as her income. Example: Someone drops in for a spray tan when your tech is not in. You put them in the booth. When they come out and schedule thier next one, you make a big deal about next time they are going to get a personalized spray tan from a professional Spray tan Tech because they scheduled it in advance. Show her how it is to her advantage.

Rep Power: 16 | Re: Spray tan tech intimidated by booth Okay, I did not end up giving her the letter, we talked. She said that she did not understand why we were getting a booth and that if I wanted her to work more hours she would. See that's just how she is- a really good employee. After explaining myself further I believe she is okay with it and understands why. |

Rep Power: 18 | Re: Spray tan tech intimidated by booth Hey DB ! I have always handled things like that in person... you get much more feedback with the body launguage to boot. Plus you can turn an imagined ( on her part ) kick in the butt, into a for real pat on the back ( your part ) for expressing her concerns about the future and well being of your business. Letters in the check just seem so impersonal, plus she then has a hard copy of your verbage that may be able to be construed as hostile... I hope this works out for you, i agree with you, i see your point, but i think she'd take the letter as hostile. good luck !! Last edited by besthands; 01-27-2009 at 09:47 AM.
