sexual harassment

hi all,

have any of you had or have a problem with this extremely sensitive issue?

i have a customer who seems to only come in when i am working (lunch break most likely) and spends a lot.. but he will go out of his way to make very uncomfortable sexual remarks towards me, almost testing the waters to see what i will say back. I am a young women and he is 56.. I normally try to ignore him or just laugh awkwardly. We don't want to loose his business but his remarks have gone from friendly to disgusting.

Re: sexual harassment

. You need to let him know that his comments are out of line because if you don’t it will get worse. Let him know that it makes you uncomfortable.

Re: sexual harassment

We have someone like that. The previous owners talked to him about it and didn't realize it was still going on. It is. I don't know if he'll be back since he found out I bought the place (he's big on lying to all the young girls and now he knows I've blown his cover since I've known him several years) but he's officially banned - he doesn't know it yet. I've written out a letter and talked to the local chief of police about it too. Out of ALL the customers, this is the only one who habitually has made all the employees uncomfortable.

Re: sexual harassment

First point in sexual harassment
1. You must tell him it is unwelcome and his comments need to be cleaned up immediately or he can tan elsewhere.
His remarks can be heard by other tanners and employees and shouldn't be allowed to continue under any situation. No salon needs money that bad.

2. Be firm
3. Professional
4. Don't be emotional

Unfortunately some how I am quite familiar with these situations...and all of these things are more easily said then done, BUT-are 100% right & necessary. It is not fun to anticipate hoping NOT to see him everyday and walking on eggshells when he does come in b/c you have no clue at what weird, creepy inappropriate thing he might say that day... and to try find the line in being polite to this good paying customer- who is talking basically trash to you...EQUALS = at the end of the day it is not right and not worth it...so confront him and don't be surprised when he either turns it around on you...or acts like you have completely lost your mind he never "meant" it like that and says what a good customer he is and spends money... remind him or your boss that there is no dollar amount that allows customers to talk to you sexually or make you feel uncomfortable...again, easier said then done- I know. Best of luck!
