COMPETITOR CLOSING / CLIENT OFFER

Over the years quite a few salons have come and go...
A few years ago I consumed a salons client base and honored the outstanding tans.. I did retain several new clients but mostly got customers returning that went to try the new place.
My question today... there is another salon closing today, they have approached me to take their client base.
This salon is not even close to my level and the majority of the client base is already ticked off. There is one piece of equipment that I could use for parts and couple boxes of odds and ends I could use. Do you think it would be beneficial to offer xxx $ in free tans that the owner could isse to her clients, that equal what I would offer for the equipment.

Re: COMPETITOR CLOSING / CLIENT OFFER

I would honor their packages up to 5 tans each or 30 days unlimited.

or

Honor their packages if they buy the same amount from you. In other words if they have 5 sessions left and buy 5 more from you then given them 10. If they have 20 days left on an unlimited and buy a month from you give them 50 days.

Many, many times we have bought the client database when salons were closing. Even if you get 20 clients that end up staying with you think of what it costs to get 20 new clients.

Re: COMPETITOR CLOSING / CLIENT OFFER

Is it true... if you are a sole proprietor can you be sued in small claims for out standing packages? Especially the one sold the the final days? I have been told yes.
I'm meeting with the owner tommorrow, Wed at p.m. ...

Re: COMPETITOR CLOSING / CLIENT OFFER

hopefully you meeting goes good-

a few months after we opened, a salon closed nearby.. we tried to get the files etc, from the owner so we could help take some of the pressure off of them while at the same time get a bunch of new tanners.. the owners refused and then just started telling everyone to come out to our place and we would give them free tanning ( just tell us what you had and we would give it to them ) , right... so we had TONS of people calling and coming in, demanding their free tanning ( the other owner told them, the packages we transfered to us) it was a freaking nightmare.. I had to get the state to step in and issue a cease and desist order to the other owners...

but she is at it again, I had a lady come in last week with the same story.. she bought 400 minutes, right before they closed.. and she saw the old owners out in town and they told her to " come on out and they will take care of you, just tell them what package you had"

Re: COMPETITOR CLOSING / CLIENT OFFER

The salon across from me closed last week, I tried to get his cleint list to honor his packages (buy x from me and you get y that you had over there). he wanted 8k for it. He did let me put a sign up at his salon telling them to come visit me for a discount. I get about 20 calls a day now asking how they can get thier money back and if i am honoring thier packages. kind of a pain, but it is nice to get the new tanners.

Re: COMPETITOR CLOSING / CLIENT OFFER

I would not honor anything. if those customers are stupd enough to go to the "cheap" and "pathetic" salon for their tans and then got suckered into paying for a package, that their old salon will be unable to honor, tough cookie. don't give them anything, in fact, offer them a similar package, but don't match the price. if you want serious tanners, they will buy your packages and tan at your salon. the other customers are proably one-time or recreational tanners, and not worth selling packages to. they will come in when they need to.

Re: COMPETITOR CLOSING / CLIENT OFFER

I would never pay for a client list. Umm, their closed and if you are across the street it isn't going to take them too long to find you, chances are they have already been to you in the past.

It may reinforce that you do get what you pay for and the cheaper route isn't the best route...

Re: COMPETITOR CLOSING / CLIENT OFFER

We're down to that last two days now///// I am considering offering a BOGO to match the package they have... For instance.... 11 tans remaining on a punchcard.
I will give them 11 BOGO's I would then get the highest single tan rate.. We also have a cheap private label that I'm thinking of throwing in for $5.99. She is a sole proprietor... so she open to be sued.... in return I'm taking the computer and two pieces of equipment.
