Employee Tanning

I am debating this one now.
We opened a month and a half ago and we are doing great. I have a total of 4 employees tanning inclu. myself & my husband. We have 3 differerent max time beds. 2 Ergoline Evolution 600, 2 Ergoline Ambition 300, and 2 SunCapsule Super Sonics. As of right now they receive free tanning on all beds. And 25% off lotions and acces. Tan Free only on the days that you work
Is this too much free tanning?? I am thinking that I should start charging for the Evolutions? Or any of the other beds for that matter. In the last month and a half we have had 80 some employee tans. We have told them that we would like them to use the Ambitions before the Evos, but they don't listen.
What do you guys do for this sort of matter. Should I start charging them? Can I start charging them? Or is it to late to do that? We are new and still trying to get all our procedures in tact and trying to find out what works best for us.
Any suggestions would be a great help in my decision.

Re: Employee Tanning

We recently changed ours based on how many hours you work per week. You must work a minimum of ten hours per week to tan for free in the first 3 level beds. They can tan in a level 4 if they have 15hrs and a level 5 if they have 20hrs or more that week. I also give them one free level 4 and level 5 tan per month. I give them 50% off of lotions.

Re: Employee Tanning

We allow free tanning only on our level 1 beds ( most stores have 5 levels) They can earn reward points by doing extra chores that are not part of their required chores. They write down tasks that are done, such as cleaned the inside of bed #3. Once a week we go thru the list and award points to all employees. They can use these points to buy upgrades, shirts, hoodies, product, whatever. It works well for us... new employees really like to earn the points so they can tan in the upper equipment. Gets a lot of the deep cleaning done.

Re: Employee Tanning

All employees get unlimited free tanning in any equipment (including spray-on) and lotion at 50% off retail. I also discount sodas to 75 cents and give 50% off snacks.

I think for a small salon eileen as a great plan or any size for that matter. I have 5 girls right now and myself included i bet we didnt tan 40 times this month. Are your girls too dark?

Sounds like all of you are tanning too much
That will probably change considering you just opened, if not it's time to sit down and educate the staff on a responsible tanning schedule
How can you expect to train your customers if you and the staff are not following the same principles you are trying to teach them.
My first question is how many times have you tanned in the past month?
I know it is your business but you need to lead by example!
Good luck with however you decide to proceed.

Re: Employee Tanning

A Hollywood Tans near me only allows their employees to tan on the days that they work. Dumb.

So, a couple of their employees have tanning memberships at my salon. Smart.

Re: Employee Tanning

My employees get free tanning in any level, lotions at cost...I just calculated and between me and my 2 employees we tanned 22 times in No. And were all pretty dark.
