Re: Advertisment Ideas

We did all of the above, newspaper ads, flyers, we did a live remote from the Radio station. Its a bit pricey but it was worth it at the beginning to show people we were there. Word of mouth will be your best bet. Work with other local businesses to see if you can help each other out with posting flyers and such.
Have you opened already? or doing a grand opening? I would personally do a grand opening with a free tan day maybe in late February or early March, right at season. Get lotion samples from disty's and manufacturers and have a big blow out.

Re: Advertisment Ideas

I havent opened yet, but my place is brand new, in a new shopping center. Im on a busy street so I know that my sign will draw attention, but I need to make sure I am getting people in to pay my crazy bills! I want to make a bulk flyer with maybe a coupon attached, and hand those out to all the local areas. I should be open around end of Dec, beginning of Jan. So should I do the grand opening a month or so later?

Re: Advertisment Ideas

Yup, I would definitely do a grand opening about a month or so later, like I said end of feb, early march. Search on here for free tan days/weekends and you'll get some good ideas.
I would get yard signs made, put them out in front of your business if you can, or give to family/friends to put in their yards. Those work well for us.

Re: Advertisment Ideas

dont do the grand opening untill peak season starts...(around feb-march depending on area)

for now do everything and anything that will get your name out

websites and myspace for starters.

radio works well to get your name out but not so much for specials.

got to local businesses and give free tan cards to employees they will then tell others.

search for more.....its trial by error.

Lots of free tans work, new clients don't have anything to lose if the tan is free and you get them in the door which is your #1 priority. Cross promo's with other businesses have worked well for me in getting the word out.

Re: Advertisment Ideas

I would plan a Free Tan Weekend in mid-January... basically as quickly as you feel your staff is ready. I have a huge banner that I reuse for every new store, says"FREE Tans Fri-Sun" in huge red letter on 36" tall banner. We put it up on Monday morning before our event.

I would not wait till Feb or March because I think people have already locked into a tanning place for the season by then. Get them to come to you early, before season... then keep them & get their referals during season. I just don't think you can afford to wait till you're in season. Also, you don't want to give "great deals" during season... that's when you want to get full price and make lots of money.

This last store we used a 10,000 pc mailer that advertised the Free Tan Weekend and also had 2 tear out coupons for a week of free tanning for you, and a week of free tanning for a friend. We have had well over a 3% return on the mailer (1% is pretty standard) which I thought was great.

Also did radio advertisements. Blasted about $700 worth over the 5 days prior to event. Radio only works in certain markets where you have a dominant station.

We had a great turnout & built our database fast. Hope this helps, and good luck!
