Tanning Party

Has anyone figured a way to have a tanning party? Like the Scrapbook parties, or home interiors?

I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out a way to get my clients out there selling my business more aggressively than they do for free sessions.

Someone gets a gift for hosting a party during closed hours or slow times. They can take lotion orders for friends that don't want to come that day. And they would get a percentage of sales as in store credit.

Each person would pay $5-$10 for a goodie bag and a free aquamassage and 1st session (provided skin type is allowing). It seems that people are crazy for these parties and they want to get stuff free.

What do you think?

Re: Tanning Party

I think its a good idea on paper sometimes just getting a group of people, none the less women together is tough. If you offer spray tanning why not incorpoate that. Have a spray tanning party and educate your clients on proper skin care and lotions etc during this event..

Re: Tanning Party

I'm going to do tanning parties too in a few months. We're calling customers from our database whether they would like to attend and bring a friend (or more than one). We do it at our own location.

Educate them like International said, about tanning in general, the way the skin works, what's the best program to get a nice tan, the importance about lotions, etc. We're combining it with information about hands and nails.

After the info part, people can buy lotions and stuff with nice specials and for everyone there is a goody bag for about $ 5.

We've done a lot of nail and jewelry parties, but I was wondering whether we would have to ask for a small entrance fee which they don't have to pay when they buy for a certain amount? Because we've had a lot of succesful parties, but also a few where almost noone was buying. That really sucks....

This sounds great I have neaver thought of a tanning party. I would like to do this, I may ask my lotion supplier if they have someone who will come down to speak for us (she is great, she has came down to my store in the past to see how it was set up so to help diplay lotions) this party is somthing my customers will love and this is a good time of the year to do it

Why have an outsider come in to do it?
They are not the ones that deal with your customers
All these lotion companies have some sort of presentation that has already been put together using power point
Thats how they educate or market to you at the shows
Get the presentations and tweak them for your needs
Remember you are trying to potrait your expertise not someone your customers will never see again.
Rent a projector and a screen have fun with it

Re: Tanning Party

If you think about it the real reason to do something like this is to increase sales
Sales through education is a great way
Soft sale and the customer makes the choice, they won't feel like you are jamming them
Include in your presentation
Developing a sensible tanning schedule
Why use lotions and moisturizers etc.
The features and benefits of the different lotions and moisturizers
Include pictures of each piece of tanning equipment with features and benefits
of each of them
my mind is going now! LOL

Re: Tanning Party

Question for those who have done this before

and how many people showed up ?

Re: Tanning Party

We have always market it through posters throughout our shop and by 'cold calling' people from our database to invite them. That works very well.

We usually have a 10-15 people at a time.

Re: Tanning Party

How about going on a larger scale
doing something off sight like a local restaurant or hall
Think about how you could get a hundred or more people to an event
cater it, you could feed a 100-150 people a decent meal for around $1,500-$2,000
think about the sales from that many people
The question is how the **** do you get them to show-up?

I do this all the time but different business, many of the technical training seminars I do,I have over a hundred showing up but it's because they are auto technicians and shop owners I know what it takes to get them there, they know they need the training
I always have success selling from these (sales through education)
In case you're wondering the tanning business is not the only thing I'm involved in,My wife actually runs the salon full time.

The problem I see is that most of the customers that come in the salon seem to think they are experts and know all there is to know about tanning etc.

help me out and give me some Ideas on how to get a large turnout at an Event
aimed at educating the public on tanning, lotions etc.

THINK BIG PEOPLE

Re: Tanning Party

I am in doubt.... I like the personal approach better than the mass approach. But maybe your option would generate more money though :-)

I just want my customers IN my place so that I can give them the information personally and connect it to our experiences. And I personally never felt much at those larger scale session. JMO
