Employees giving away lotion

I have a problem...I have a girl who I just started putting on the computer (she was strickly bed cleaner) and last night I went in to close a little early so the girls could clean while I took care of the front, so they could leave on time and my girl (who I just started training to be on the computer on the front) and her friend came in and I looked up his history and he had paid for the tan and she did not charge for the lotion or the goggles... I asked her about it and she said oh i will pay for it...I told her that she could not give anything away for free....she said ok..Should I stop training her and put her back on cleaning beds or beleive it would not happen again>>?? She claims she did not know...

I'd give her a second chance. Being up front is intimidating to some people and they get totally disoriented. If she does it again then I'd make her pay for it. Is she young? If so then it make take her a while to get total control. Good luck!

Ummmm she didn't know that you don't give free lotion and goggles to anyone, much less a friend? Is this employee as dumb as she sounds? Oh and yes I would have her pay for it.

From your post, it sounds to me like the employee knew exactly what she was doing and played dumb when she got caught. Typically, I would drop her like she's hot in this situation, and I'm willing to bet she'll do something similar again. But, help can be hard to find and you may just want to keep an eye on her for a while. It could've been a one time thing - you never know for sure until it happens a second time. Good luck. -Belvy

Re: Employees giving away lotion

Yeah, I'd be curious when she was planning on paying for that.

I'd put her back on cleaning for 2 weeks or so.

Did you really have to ask this question? You were there. Have you told her at any time, or has she seen you or other employees do this? (Think very hard about that last part.) I think it is possible that she has adopted the "herd mentality." She has seen someone else do it and assumed that, even though she knew better, she could do it and get away with it. After all, you have sooo much sitting around on your shelves, what is it going to hurt to give away a lotion or 2...

By the way, can her sorry thieving a$$. Just keep looking. You probably have more than one.

Once a thief always a thief.

I would have called the police, prosecuted her for theft and terminated her for theft immediately.

If you allow her to stay, she will continue to steal.

Re: Employees giving away lotion

If you don't think your employees are ALL doing this you are dead wrong. They will push it as far as they can before they get caught. What I do to help alleviate them giving packettes that I PAY for is letting their clients TRY a cup or two of DS lotions (when I have them, I got them for free anyway, so it doesn't cost us anything to do this) if they continue to do so, then demote them and they will probably quit anyway or fire them.

Re: Employees giving away lotion

Gotta love the "oh I'll pay for it" reasoning. Last time a girl tried that on me $100 bill went missing at the end of her shift and of course being the saint she said "oh I must have accidently givento someone, you can just subtract it from my check" okay sweetheart if you "accidently" gave it out as you claim, as hard to bellieve as that is, why are you so ready to surrender your own money for it?
I fired her a$$ and said if you can't tell the difference between a $100 and a $10 i just can't have you behind the counter, oh and I did take it out of her check too!
