Question Does anyone have small business health insurance?

We have Aetna for our business and they have just raised our rates $300. We have a single and then a mother & child plan. Does anyone have a good reasonable health insurance plan? I am now paying $1529. a month for 2 adults and a 4 year old. I guess they had to raise the rates to cover that $15 bandaid and the $20. tylenol.

First off, raise your deductible to around $5000 and opt for a co-pay around $50. Health insurance, IMO, should be for worst case scenarios not for everyday doctor visits. If your coverage is offering your employee's $10 visits to the doctor when they get a little sneeze or drip, then you should change your policy.

Re: Does anyone have small business health insurance?

Agree with j4kp07 Raise your deductable and even your co pay. Also, take note of the cost of the paternity rider on your wife. IMO, we all seem to have lost our perspective regarding health insurance. It should be for those catostrophic issues like accidents and major health problems.
Here's a way to lower your cost. Move your policy up to the $5,000 deductable. Take the money you save every month and start putting that in a seperate savings account so it's there if and when you ever need it. Once you get up to $5,000, that extra money you were paying is now your to spend on other things.

Re: Does anyone have small business health insurance?

Thanks, you both have raised some very good points. Our copay is $50 and our deductable is $2500. clubtan, I like your idea of raising the deducatble to $5000 and then just saving the extra for the hopefully never catastrophe.

Re: Does anyone have small business health insurance?

PHD - It works. Once you've set aside the $5k, you're done.
The copay you mention. Is that just for doctor office visits or everything? Most policies have a 20/80 split ALONG with a $50 copay office visit. You pay 20 percent of everything until you reach your deductable. Think about moving it up to 30/70. If something happens, you've still got the $5k in the bank to cover it.

ehealthinsurance.com does a great job of comparing plans. We went ahead and used them to get our Blue Cross insurance but you could always use it to compare different health plans/companies and use another agent.

Re: Does anyone have small business health insurance?

Just make sure that whatever insurance company you pick, your local hospital AND doctors participate in their plan. I found out the hard way. The hospital paticipated but most of the doctors didn't. If your illness or injury does not require a hospital admission, you pay all and then try to get reimbursed later.

We just got insurance from Combined it works like aflac But we have been really happy. We have been making money when we go to the Dr. Helps with accidents and illness but no healthly visits.

Re: Does anyone have small business health insurance?

Ask your insurance agent about a Health Savings Plan. One of these plans can greatly reduce the amount you pay each month.
