Rep Power: 0 | When you know more than your boss This is the second salon I've worked at. At the last one we had all kinds of educational sessions about tanning, lotions and the program we were running on (Helios). Since beginning my new job at this second salon, I am finding out that I know more than my boss. I know more about tanning lotions and more about Helios. I asked him if us (the employees) could have access to the commission report so we could see how we were doing. He said no b/c if he gave us that then we would have everything else. I know that that's incorrect. I know exactly how to specify which employee can see which report, etc. But I didn't argue. It's not just that though. The other day he told a customer that Halo won't allow their skin to tan. I know that's bull b/c we had a DS rep come to our salon and explain how that lotion works! But of course, I didn't argue. All this keeping my mouth shut it really getting to me. Wether or not this post is a vent or not is irrelavant. My question is, how can I be polite to my boss when clearly I know he's wrong?

Maybe he can talk himself into learning what the lotion actually does and then it wouldn't be like you are trying to correct him. I wouldn't come right out and tell him he's wrong....if you want to keep your job :)

As for The Halo, I suppose he says that because it has a SPF 4 in it, and he does not seem to know how to explain how SPF works, why not just mention to him that you have gone through training with DS and you would be more then happy to pass along the information THEY gave you on THIER products?? But do it in a way that you do not come across as a Miss Know It All.... that's the worst LOL. Funny Clubtan and I where chatting about this very same thing yesterday ... Good Luck! Very nicely let him know you attended a DS training and give him the explanation of Halo that Ds gave you. I would also let him know you attended Helios training and know some tricks of the program to allow for certain things. If he is interested you would be happy to show him but if it doesn't want employees to have access to anything you completely understand that as well. Sounds to me like you have a great knowledge and could really advance yourself with this company. You can be helpful without putting your employer down.
