Re: Specials vs. No Specials

Your so right. I have customers who drive an extra 20 mins out of the way even, though they have a salon closer. Everyone told Me I was making a mistake by hiring one of my best friends and my grandmother. But I saw the potential that my best friend is young, very good at selling and my grandmother is older and wisier as well as calmier so it turned out to be the prefect conncotion. People come in sometimes more than they normally would just to here grandma say something wise or us girls to brighten up their day. It's just decor lays heavy on your mind everytime you get one of those tanning magizines with those out of this world salons with girl in real skimpy clothes!! you know I mean.........

Re: Specials vs. No Specials

PHD

Some snickered at the price but bought the package anyway, I explained that we are at the beginning of the season and that there are all new bulbs.
I even had a guy just buy a single session after *****ing about the price. He came back 2 days later and bought a monthly package. I guess he couldn't find a better deal. LOL

Re: Specials vs. No Specials

we did a price increase after purchasing our salon after figuring what we wanted to make per monthly package and that is our "special" (55 reg 36 on special) if we just set it at 36, then people would want it for even cheaper...this works well for us....so in our minds we aren't running a special but in the cust. mind we are.
but we also have the customer service to match...

Re: Specials vs. No Specials

Specials work best for me when I run them for a limited time and when they are over they are over. I don't give discounts regualrly and I make sure when a special is over its over, even if my customer missed it by a day. Customers know to buy when the special is running which helps sales. Running specials regularly makes them not so special anymore, so I run about 6 per year. Ususally something like buy a bottle of lotion 30 or more get x visits free or free upgrade. Or buy x package with x bottle get moisturizer for free.

Re: Specials vs. No Specials

We used to run specials month to month. Now while i do have some sort of specials all year round i try to plan them out in advance. Pretty much 3-4 months at a time. Basically the values will become less and less as we get into busy season. I save the better promos for after July 4th when we traditionally get slower and of course for JASON.

Re: Specials vs. No Specials

"Specials" should be "specials". You should not offer them during busy season, because the tanners coming in are already expecting to pay.

If you continue to offer specials EVERY month, when do your clients pay your "regular" price. I am sure they will continue to only make a purcahse when a "special" is offered.

Be smart about it. You need to stop giving away the house.
Also, give away a tan before you discount lotion.

You don't want to de-value your salon or the products your selling.
