Cool Marketing advice Needed

I have been in business about 2 1/2 years and things are still going well, problem is I know I have a large untapped market. I have no marketting background and have never done any real advertising, just send out Birthday cards offering a bday special. I am hoping someone can give me some ideas to give my business a jump start. I have just put in a new HP and just don't know the most effective way to get the word out, "hey I'm right here!"
Thank You in Advance for All Help

Re: Marketing advice Needed

I think it all depends on where you are located. For some, Ad Packs work, newspapers, radio, yellow pages, flyer's, etc. or combinations of those. For us, it's been the Yellow Pages then, radio commercials starting in February

Re: Marketing advice Needed

Do you find radio is useful, do people really respond to it?

Re: Marketing advice Needed

Radio is cheap in this area. Can be bought for less than $20 a spot. With radio however, one needs to have at least 4 spots a day for at least 2 months for it to be effective. Then, one needs a hook in the commercial. Having a radio station record the ad never did much for me so I created and record my own. For me, the hook was our pet parrot we used to keep in the salon. Everyone knew the parrot. By accident one day, while recording the commercial, we sped up my voice. It sounded funny so we used that as the parrots voice. Did it work? People will stop me on the street and ask about "Figgy, the Club Tan Parrot".

I always look in the valuepak coupons for good deals. Also some grocery stores will let you advertise on the back of their receipt tapes.

Val-mak (coupons) work well for my area. The problem sometimes is if you do it alot, customers will start asking do you have coupons out this month? I usually advertise in Dec
and about every other month after untill july. Hope that helps

Re: Marketing advice Needed

mickie - as I said above, it may all depend on were you are. I tried Val-Pak coupons in this area and the return was terrible. Not even 1% out of 10,000, an industry minimum standard. Yet, like you, I've heard from others that say they get a great return. Guess it all depends on ones local demographics. What type of people live in your area, how much do they earn, age, sex, etc. Consumer make ups can be difficult to understand and appear to be vastly different area to area. You can't trust the individual local advertisers either. They'll all tell you they're the best.

The best form of advertising is your guests. Do you have a referral program????
