Rep Power: 0 | Personal phone calls -- it is written in the employee handbook no personal phone calls this is a business phone, unless an extreme emergency and making plans to go out with friends is not an emergency!!! I even did a memo again on Monday reminding employees about the policy. We have caller i.d. - what do they think I am stupid?!? (Don't answer that) What would you do? I am seriously considering fining them when caught on a personal phone call. |

Rep Power: 0 | As long as it does not interfere with their work and it is not long distance, I don't mind the employees being on the phone. They know that customer service is priority and if they happen to be on the phone when a customer walks in, they put their conversation on hold and take care of their customer with great service I might add. I love my employees for the most part. They are great people and awesome sales people so a phone call here and there when business is slow is acceptable. Maybe I am too nice but they're still really good at what they do. |

Rep Power: 21 | I agree, if they get 1 call a shift and it is kept to an absolute minimum I don't mind. If it were to interfere with their work or they were tying the line up for any length of time then that would be a problem. If it is a problem I would give them a written warning stating that next time it will result in being dimissed. Good Luck! |

Rep Power: 28 | My rule is if there is anyone in here they are NOT to be on the phone. If there is no one then I don't mind as long as it is local and not for an extended period of time. Same for the internet. There is just only so much there to clean... |

Rep Power: 28 | At this time of the day when you see 35-50 people per day there is a HUGE amnount of downtime, I clean personally with employees daily to ensure it is done. We have it down to a routine that takes no more than 1.5 hours... 12+ hours with 30-50 people can get pretty boring. I mostly work in the daytime until 5ish and they 1 person now takes it for the last 3 hours. |

Rep Power: 0 | when your ermployees start to ignore the policies you've set forth, fire one to make an example of them. My advice would be to fire the one they wouldn't expect you to let go. Cut off the head and the body will die as they say. See if they respond. If not. Can them. At that point, it's the simple fact that you have an entire basket of bad apples and not just one. |

Rep Power: 30 | If they are not following your rules that were discussed prior to them getting the job, and not even following memos that you have given them discussing the matter, they are taking advantage of you. You let them get away with it once, so they think it is ok. You should really look into letting someone go to set an example for the rest. Like lady bug said, your not paying them to maintian their social life. They are at work, to work! Thats it. Your the boss, you need take on that roll. |

Rep Power: 21 | You know when you start hating employees, it reflects in your over all performance, clients see the tension. I have recently went through a staff change, and not until after an employee was gone, did I realize how it was affecting me, other employees, and clients. Now all my girls get along great, when I walk into the salon I do not feel like I am walking on egg shells and I myself have been in a much better mood. Since morale has been up for the last 2months, our sales have increased. First I would sit them down and talk to them, take control give them a verbal. Do not leave a memo, to me a memo is for a reminder but not for discipline or change of a situation. You are their boss. When you give up control of all situations within your salon you might as well kiss it good bye. Even if it is something like talking on the phone to stealing, you need to address those issues and enforce them, once you have regained the control, you will not be in this situation. |
