First understand how most distributor sales people are paid. 1) Hourly wage 2) Sales commissions from the distributor 3) Manufacturer paid bonuses for selling their items called spiffs Several years ago when spiffs started it was not uncommon for distributor salespeople to earn more money from manufacturers in spiffs than they did from the distributor that they actually worked for. Distributors saw their employees making all that money and wanted their share. So many distributors have changed pay structures for their sales people for the company to make that money not the sales person. Note: Realize that this "bonus" structure does influence what a sales person is trying to sell you. Some sales people push only what has the highest spiff, not what is the best product for you. Employees leave companies for many reasons. Some leave because their pay has been changed by their distributor having a dramatic effect on their personal earning. I personally know of cases where this has happened. The reality is have an open mind. Talk to the old company and see if you can get the same or better prices as well as the same type of personal service and knowledge. Then make the choice on what is best for you! The products are going to be the same either place. |
