I try to stay on top of things by making my to do list at night. I start with the tasks only I can do, and whatever I dont finish, I delegate.
I drop in unannounced once or twice a week to do a surprise inspection.

Everything was going smoothly until one of our full time girls just decided she didnt want to come in to work and didnt bother calling. What I should have done to be a better manager is be prepared for something like that to happen.

I (until next season) will be here all of the time during the day and into the evening. My partner is here for the remaining time with a bed cleaner. I had someone last season who was from a retail background and appeared to be good (when I was here) when I was gone was a different story. I pulled last march product numbers (lotions,etc..) and compared to this year (With me and partner here mainly) and his numbers from '04 were $699.00, this year (same time) product sales were $3400.00. a distinct difference. I do believe it is all in training, **** I was a corporate regional manager for a huge clothing company and also a regional trainer for the same company for 8 years. But when you aren't there this is an easy business just to slack off... So just beware.

DC, with that much of a difference in retail sales it may have been more than training. To me it sounds more like theft but you never know. It is extremely hard to find anyone who will care as much about your business as you do. I personally have had a very hard time finding qualitey employees. For those that are just unable to be in their salons perhaps a good video monitoring system might be the answer. It will cost more upfront but will easily get that $$$ back in increased sales and loss prevention.

True that Jeff.... I think It was alot of variables involved with it. Needless to say he is gone and the $$ is coming in hand over fist. (for now!)
