Rep Power: 23 | I've had it with employee theft! I've only had 1 theft by a customer, and it was a $7.00 packette of lotion! Employees, on the other hand, are the problem. Just fired an employee for theft the third time! Geez! I treat my employees very well, and they still take advantage of me. I dont get it. I thought she was really going to be good. Had a complaint by a fried who sent her brother in to tan that he had gotten burned by the employee telling him to lay too long. Went to pull his client card to see who was working when he came in. Low and behold, no client card! NOT on the log in sheet, aka no money. Employee admitted she was the one there. She wasnt sure how it happened, said she would take care of his visit and pay it out of her next check, never happen again blah blah. Um, HELLOOO!! I dont think so. Your gone. Forget the log sheet, maybe. Forget the client card, bad. Forget the money? HElooo! What are we in the business for? Forget all three? I dont think so! Guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and get software to fight this battle for me. 2 good employees and 1-2 positions I just keep firing for theft. And to think it all started on a warning for why she let him tan so long. |

Rep Power: 0 | I'm working on this problem myself. I'm not using tanning software, so I've got to have some checks and balances in place before I hire anyone again. There is a decent POS in place, but I'm having to compare timer minutes to the journal...that's not going to work for long... |

Rep Power: 0 | SunEase is $500....you gotta have something. In my opinion, no card, fired. Your card has your liability release, right? You wouldn't hire a driver without a license/insurance, right? Never let someone tan without a liability release. This is partly why when I work, I always peruse through the logs, looking for irregularity. Someone paid for 10 sessions but tanned 12...etc. It also helps you with complaints. Girl called saying, "I tanned in your bed #8 for 15 minutes and got no color". She asked for a free tan and I said no. Later I felt bad, but I didn't when I pulled the logs and found she'd tanned with us 3 times in 3 years. Give away $7 to someone who has spent $21 in 36 months.... The data mining alone is a great reason to get software. |

Rep Power: 23 | $500? That seems a lot cheaper than the others I have checked into. I tell all the employees that I check the log sheets to the bed timers, but I dont really. You cant really do it that way because the bed only gives you hours, so its not gonna be exactly right with a 60 minute variation. I wish the bed would give you hours and minutes. I think the bed timer has tenths on it? But that would be a lot of trouble. (as if adding the minutes from all the tanners everyday this time of year wouldnt be). I do go through and pull cards to match to the log sheets, and stuff like that though. I really need some software. Johnny come lately-do you do that daily? or weekly? I tell them I do it, and thought that would work, but it didnt. Did you know we fired her Monday night and she came in to tan on Tuesday? Oh well, I guess I'll get my money back from her that way. |

Rep Power: 24 | We also have SunEase in our salon. It isn't the greatest program, but it works. I also check ALL the logs like Johnny. You have to with your employees. You'll be surprised how much better you'll be able to track things. You may think that they are the greatest thing in the world and behind your back they are low down dirty. We make frequent "drop bys" when our employees are working. They never know when you might pop in and it keeps them on their toes. I am one to speak my mind, especially if I see the salon is dirty, beds aren't cleaned properly, etc. To help control employee theft, I take "weekend inventory". BY the time I leave on Friday I make sure only a certain amount of packets out (10) at a time. The rest of our lotions are locked up. I come in on Monday and check the sales. If the amount sold and the amount left out doesn't equal 10, then I know something walked somewhere. Then, we will review our security tapes. Inventory used to be a problem until our girls knew I check weekly for inventory and we tape for their "safety". We've pinned one employee already on giving her brother a "free VHR session". You never know when or what will happen to you. It's sometimes hard to prepare for something until it happens. Don't get bit in the butt twice. Put some things in order and watch your employees. |

Rep Power: 0 | $500 is the full retail if you don't use FST timers. If you use FST its about half that. Carribean hit on a crystal clear, great point. You'll sometimes be surprised at what you find employees are doing, and NOT doing. You walk in and see bed #5 is dirty. Hmmm...last tanner in room 5 was 2.5 hours ago. You know the employee looking bored has left that room for at least two hours....only 4 tanners between (in other rooms), so it wasn't "because of a rush and no time". In case anyone is interested, I found a smoking deal at Sams yesterday. 4 Cameras, monitor, IP enabled: $499. Model SSC14WEB All inclusive system with four cameras and a central monitor. Best part is it can be connected to your ISP and allows remote montioring of cameras (via the web). Web servers alone are in the $500 range, so this is a SMOKING deal. Best part: Plug and Play. Everything you need is there, such as cables between cameras and central monitor. So pull it out and you don't have to make trips to radio shack. Exceptions to "everything": Internet service and network cable) |
