Who knew that I should buy cases of lotion for my salon the same way I buy a burger from Burger King. Good thing the rep. from Millinium lotion set me straight.

Apparently, since I didn't need a free sample of a burger before I bought it, I shouldn't need to try a lotion before buying it.

Oh, and apprently my customers are just a convenient way to get off the phone. And all this time I thought my customers kept me in business.

Needless to say Millenium sales "pitch" for their Pitch Black did not work for me.

Do they work on anyone?

Millenium blows. Don"t bother with their products, they"re as bad as their sales pitch.

I had them call in full force yesterday as well... I told them that any company that dosen't send me 1 trial bottle of thier new lotion (or at worst case) let me BUY one bottle isn't worth my business.

Apparently, they don’t understand that the salon customer is the key to survival. ours and theirs. He needs to visit a Sam’s club. Free samples everywhere.

I got stuck with $100 bucks with of millenium.
I threw it out as I couldn't give it away- its junk.

I made a business decision to carry and promote only one line of tanning products in my salon- Designer Skin. Everyone loves it. I use it and have gotten my customers hooked on it.

Now when millenium and others call, before they get even one sentence in I make it clear to them we are a Designer Skin salon. They hang up pretty quick.

Here is reality as I see both sides.

As a tanning salon owner, it is impossible to know if tanning products being sold over the phone are quality or not. It's one thing if you know the manufacturer and know the quaility. It's another thing to have someone call you out of the blue.

As a tanning product manufacturer, so many salon owners abuse the free samples. When I sent free samples in the past I bet 1 in 10 was a real salon owner actually trying the product to make a purchasing decision. Most were just looking for something free to sell. I have had salon owner request a case of 12 bottles as a free sample to "make sure their customers like it". WTF

With every issue, there is two sides.

Some of the "questionable" telemarketing houses deserve to be treated this way but the "real" manufacturers deserve the respect of a purchase. Free sampling only adds to the bottom line cost of the products for salons!

It's funny. I've been carrying Designer Skin for awhile, and move quite a bit of it. I called DS to get co-op approval and their marketing CD/Sales DVD. They OFFERED free samples. Who am I to say no? I'm won't pull product I sell off (the counter) to use it myself, so this was a perfect opportunity for me to try it. (We pre-bought 2005 DS sight un-seen at the Orlando show, so I never had an opportunity to try it before carrying it).

I know this is an exception (to how you decide to pick up a line), but my point is that DS offered even though I already carry and advertise their products.

I buy everything through my disty and outside of them, I have only had 1 company...Italian Thunderbolt agree to send free samples prior to purchase.
I agree with Greg about both sides...I would never ask for a 12 bottle case for free, especially PL, but the other Mfgrs, should have anticipated how they were going to get salon owners to try their stuff. The fact that they won't even send me 1 packet to try first makes me suspicious.
My disty guarantees their products and I never feel stuck with product.
