For those of you that do change hours for winter. When do you change them back? Beginning of the year or closer to peak?

I have two sets of hours. In season New Years Day thru Memorial Day ( stay open 2 hours later on Saturday one hour later weekdays) Memorial Day thru New years. I did start opening at 7am in November and this is really doing well for me.

We change our hours in February, we will open an hour earlier and close an hour or two later. Usually change back after Memorial Day..kind of depends on demand.

We also stay open longer during the season. Because of the snow-birds, we tend to revert back to our summer hours about Mother's Day.

I refuse to talk about things of this matter with peak season not even upon us yet. It just makes me realize how short the season really is.

I'm with ramcat, Memorial Day for us.

I didn't even realize there was a change in hours. It's 7am-11pm everyday, season or not, for us.

Always be open an hour earlier and an hour later than your comp. And if you say your open til 9 - take your last tanner at 9.

I agree with Tanu01...you always want to be known as the salon that is always open. If you can't because of sales and size of your tanning salon then you need to figure out how to make it easy for your customers....It should never be a thought to your tanners....

CUSTOMER:
when are they open? Let me figure out..their summer hours....when are they open? I need to schedule my day around when my tanning salons is open...

This will not work...it will work if you are the only salon in your city...but being known as the salon who has flex time hours...you are opening yourself to competition.

DW, I have found one of the top complaints from people coming to us from other salons is hours. You're absolutely right, people should not have to sit down and figure out our hours. One salon down the road from us has different hours Th(10-8), Fri(10-7), Sat (10-6), AND Sun (12-6)...then they have to remember M-W is 9-8. What a pain. And it screws a lot of people over with the 24hr rule!! Keep it simple...that's why we're 7-11 no matter the day!
