I am doing competitor pricing in our area and got to thinking i should also ask you guys. I would like to know information about your salon such as:
What type of equipment do you have?
How many units?
What are your packages and prices?
What is your December special?
THANK you for participation I really appreciate it. I would like to know how our salon compares to others, and i would rather come right out and ask you guys instead of doing a salon spy or somerthing! Thanks!

You were right in your first thought.
Get your competitor pricing "IN your area"
My area won't realyy help you.
You will get a variety of answers regarding units, packages & pricing. I would reccomend a search regarding these items.
As for a December Special...What is your competiton doing? Do what they are not!1

When I get calls from the competition I know it. I usually give them bogus info. IMHO I think they should come in... Not just sit around making Phone calls.

I have no problem giving a tour and usually know by the end of teh tour if the client is a real client or a competitor. I suggest you do this. Calling does not give you the big picture of what your comprtition is all about anyway.
I have better things to do then to make thier life easier so they do not have to drive to check me out. Besides I get the chnace to see the future competitor face to face. Not trying to be rude just stating facts.

Very True...There were a few when we first opened up that I thought about afterwards...Hmmmmmmm, I wonder if they were from somewhere else! Now I question more...

Compition called a few weeks ago (caller ID ya know!) I asked her why was she calling & pretending to be a customer! She was shocked & embaressed I knew who she was! Deception NEVER pays off. I keep an eye on my compitions news paper ad's, their signs ect.

We have a couple of people myself included...and we tour our competition per area...I always make sure we buy one session...it makes me feel better and we get to use the different equipment.....this way we always receive their advertising or we see their lack of attention to their database....

The best advice is to call your competitors and *67 so your call will be blocked. And ask them about there pricing to compare. Pricing really differs from state to state and town to town. Based on the types of beds and many other factors.

We send in our girls to tan or ask about certain specials at the area salons. One of our girls used to tan at one of them, so they know her. Another is a high school student so she gets student ambassador info. There is a lot of undercutting (of course) and the one salon lets their clients tan 2-3 times a day so that they do not come to our salon. In our area, they are considered a larger chain. We say that she has to let her clients tan 2 or 3 times a day to equal our 1 time. Its pathetic and VERY BAD for the customer. So, get out there, see your competition....it will open your eyes to how you can even better your customer service depending on how they treat you elsewhere.

That is where you could be horrible wrong.
I knwo who my competitors are. And when they tan in my salon.
They fall into one of two catagories.
~The first one being, not worth my response. And I will take their single visit ching every so often from them. just for them to see what they are incapable of duplicating.

and the second response is~ Special 'incredibly and stupidly' priced 'must have' coupon/postcards that they and only they get
Just to see if tehy will match them. And they often do..probably losing their ***...everytime. Since their unit set up is so different from mine.
:gin:
Worse case scenario, they send one person in to redeem it. Just to see if it is real. Big deal. I am out little if tehy run it publicly to match my IN HOUSE Mailers. They lose...in the long run. My clients would already be tanning with them if they wanted to. JMHO

Careful about assuming anything about your competitors. You never really know what they are up to.
