I just had someone come in to drop off a job application. The only problem was the job application was for another salon. She then wanted me to give her detailed directions on how to find the other place. Sure hope they hire her

haa haa, when I first opened I had this girl who may be 19, come in and fill out an application, asked a million questions to the point I was annoyed, and she kept calling, stopping by for weeks, and I kept saying, "I'm not hiring!, but I'll keep your app. on file" "but I'm a really good worker, I'm a fast learner, I really need the money, I live right down the street," etc..etc..every time! I even got letters from her!

haven't heard from her in a while, so finally she just came in yesterday and tanned, and said, "I worked for so and so tanning salon" (one of the biggest around and one I actually respect)she said, "boy did they have money problems, computer problems, scheduling problems, it got soo bad there that I didn't even know if I would have a job in a few weeks, the money was soo tight! everyone was quitting, the owners don't have a clue what they are doing"..so on and so on..."if you ever need help here, I'd be more than happy to work for you, I have great experience now, and I'm sure you'll need it this busy season"

yup, I'm still not hiring.

I just had one come in that used to work down the street...No personality Hmmmmmm, I wonder why they let her go? She has 2 very used up Matahari lotions & mentions to me that she wouldn't mind working here...(Yea, Like she's doing me a big favor) Then she inquires about purchasing another Matahari, and when I asked her what she paid for hers' she said $25.00 which is exactly what I paid for it...I just laughed...If she wasn't buying only the 1 week package, I might have cut her a deal, but I think she is still working for the guy up the street. I can't wait til the week is up!

Don't hire the following:

1. Droolers.
2. Albinos.
3. People who can't spell your name or theirs.
4. Applicants who ask you what time it is.
5. Applicants with elderly relatives (cause they will need time off shortly after they have been trained and you are short on staff already, that's why you hired them).
6. Students that have there own cellphones, private lines in their bedrooms and a boyfriend.
7. Applicants whose resumes are dated 1999 or printed with a dot-matrix printer.
8. Applicants that have grease burns speckled on their upper bodies.
9. Applicants who bring in a resume and ask where they are.
10. Applicants that "push" on your "pull" door.

Disclaimer: No offense to any of the above!

How about the applicant who thinks the only reason they want a job is "it would be fun working at a tanning salon". They have no clue what's truly involved in working in one. They think you just sit and let people tan.

Along with my application, I now have a 2nd page that I ask 'preliminary questions' such as:
What made you apply for this position?
Why do you feel we should hire you for the job instead of someone else?
What is important to you in a company?
What are your weaknesses?
How would you describe yourself as a person?
What kind of job do you see yourself holding five years from now?

Believe me when I say I get some unique answers. Tells me alot about how a person thinks, how they spell, how neat they are just filling out their answers. This has help me weed out the ones I probably don't want to hire.

X-Treme- Those are great questions. I copied a few down. Thanks!

I do ask, "Why do you want to work in a tanning salon?" And I usually get a blank stare, but one time I had a girl actually tell me that she tans even though it isn't good for skin. Guess how long that interview lasted.

Actually, my favorite was when I was looking over her resume and she said, "Are we done?" I said, "We sure are."
