I am a firm believer that to build a base tan, you should do at least 5-6 tan sessions in a row. (meaning 24-48 hours in between). I get a lot of tanners taht will go monday, then maybe friday, then the new wednesday. They say they dont get to tan, and I tell them the need to tan MORE OFTER to get the base first then go once evey 4-5 days. Do any of you think this way also?

Thanks

The recipe that seems to work for most of our tanners is trying to get them to be consistant right away to stimulate the melanin. When building a tan, try to tan 2-3 times per week. When maintaining color 1-2 times every 7-10 days (depending on skin type).

3 on and 1 off, then 3 on and 2 off, or every other day until the desired colour is reached. As long as there is no burning or itching. Works for us.

We're thinking of putting together a starter base tan package that would encourage people to use the higher end beds to maintain their tan. I was thinking that would buy a package that has them start with our low or medium pressure and then has them use our hp unit. This way new clients would try all the beds and hopefully elect to stay in the higher end ones. Anyone had success with this?

I think this is a good idea. Especially for people like me who are just starting out and have no clue where to begin. Although it seems so easy, there are so many things you hear (good and bad) and your just not sure what way to go.

Re: building a BASE tan

At a salon that I used to manage, we sold a Sampler Pack that included 2-3 tans of each type of bed for x amount. People really loved that the first month we did it so we had to keep bringing it back.

It's true that most customers that get used to the comfortable/bigger high end beds rarely want to go back to a basic bed.

Yes.

Every new customer that comes through my door is recommended a tanning schedule depending on what kind of results they want. I let them know that building a base tan takes a little bit of work but then maintaining it is much easier.
