How far away is far enough? - tanTALK

So I'm thinking of opening my second salon a little under 8 miles away in a town next over. But my question to all of you is the following..

How far away from your salon would you consider opening a second location

and..

how far away from competition do you think you think you should be when openinga salon period. I know we have 4 salons within 5 miles all around for my first location but we all reside in a big town, so we each get our share. How far away are you guys from your competetion.

Thoughts?

I was looking to open up a second location but did not want to get too far away from my current location. In doing some research around my area, I found a couple of salons directly accross the street from each other!?!? I mean they could actually see each other's front doors and possibly even share parking if necessary. I have since put it on the back burner but I would say at least a 3 mile radius without competition--assuming there is the correct demographics for tanners. (And always expect someone to move into your territory (when you do find a new locaton) at some point.)) My .02.

we are within a mile from our competition..There are some locations here that have 4 locations all on different corners.

If I could go next door I would... but everyone always gets that "non compete" clause...it gets in my way everytime.

Do you not use the non-compete ? The last store I'm doing is with a very aggressive contractor,He came to me. I insisted on a non-compete on any of his properties with in 5 miles witch would still be binding even if he sells.

Depend on what the demands are, if the market will take it, and you wont hurt your current business, put it as close or as far away as you want
