Hi everyone, I'm new to posting here, so please be gentle! I have what I think is a quick question with regards to LS Beach Sun 6.5 bulbs 100 watt and 160 watt VHO. What should they read out at when brand new on a UV metre. I have a SOLARMETER model 5.0 total UV (A + B)? I have done a reading and they seem kind of low to me. Thank you in advance for all of your help.

After immediate install into 2002 ETS Sunstar ZX32, 15 minutes to warm up I got readings between 17-18, readings were similar over bulbs and through acrylics. The solar meter you/I use reads more of either A/B and the reading will vary depending on the % AB. Call or PM John at URI, he was very helpful, hopefully you bought your bulbs from him.

Thank you for such a quick response. I have been getting 18-19 so I guess I am right on target. I don't know what I was thinking. I have Phillips Cleo Adavantage Bulbs in another bed of mine that are a little older, and I did a reading the other day and they were reading out at 19 so I was a little confused. Thanks again.

Lamps that have a higher UVB sometimes will have a lower meter reading than lamps with less UVB. The Advantage lamps are 5% UVB & the Beach Sun's are 6.5%. If you read a 10 minute lamp like the Equator Sun 8.5 it might read only 12-15, yet it will light you up very fast!
