Rep Power: 0 | I was just hired to take over a tanning salon, that in the beginning was booming. Due to poor management, it has slowed to almost 10 clients a day. I am coming in with a staff that has been there and Assistant Managers built in. I want to set ground rules, I know how I want this salon run but do any of you have a way for me to approach this subject. One girl, who may not be there after I officially take over, sits on her cell phone. I want my employees to like me but respect me as well. I am nice, but I will not tolerate what they are currently doing. Also...any rules I may look over just staring as Manager (have been assistant at another salon). ANY advice will be beneficial. THANKS! |

Rep Power: 22 | Have a meeting at the very onset and announce the truth: "This salon should be doing much better than it is. I'm going to be making some changes and the truth is, some of you won't be here a week from now or a month from now because you won't agree with those changes." That demands their respect immediately, but to keep their respect after that, you'll have to PRODUCE RESULTS. Some will stay and the poor performers will leave. Turnover is inevitable. |

Rep Power: 0 | My assistant manager has hired a new crew....and the thing is...they seem to be her friends. I don't approve of this either. She says she was asked to take my position but turned it down....it seems as though she want's to co-operate with me, but while I am not there she has taken control of everything, which is fine, but I am worried that she will have a hard time making the transition. But, a meeting is definately on my agenda, they need to know what I expect from them and booty pants and tube tops are not part of my vision. Thanks! |

Rep Power: 0 | What had happend is, one of the girls is in a sorority, she hired her friends who were in the same sorority. Other sororities and some fraternities refused to tan there. Now, the girls have been leg go but the girl who hired them is an assistant manager. Before I worked here I heard nothing but bad things about the employees. I'm doing a complete take over and turning everything inside out. They have not even been trained on lotions or the proper care of skin for max. tan. I have two stores that I will be RETRAINING...and unfortunately, I don't think I'll have the time to rehire a full staff before the students come back. When I am there they still curse, eat in the front of the salon, and gossip. I have be hired but have yet to come in because I am still finishing my two weeks at another job...but my assistant manager has already started to redecorate without my consent. I do not want to fire her because I think she has potential, but I don't want her to think she can be in control. |

Rep Power: 23 | Like I said,You need to replace. And I'm sorry but the first one need to let go is the the that thinks she's in control. Hopefully, this will put fear into the rest of them for awhile. Be prepared for alot of crapt. One thing I learned long ago, Every one can be replaced. And its moretrue now then ever. My first boss preached it all the time. He was right. (at 16) Flick |

Rep Power: 0 | It's time to clean house and get new staff. As far as not being able to replace them in time, I'm sure if you run an ad or just put up a Now Hiring sign you will get a lot of applications. If you have to retrain anyway, it is better to retrain new people who will respect you, than those who are already set in their ways. |
