I'm brand-spanking new to the tanning scene. I've been researching and researching for a fitness center/tan salon to begin in the late summer months.

Excuse me for being ignorant, but what is EFT? Does anybody know of a list of other terms that a new guy needs to know along with this term?

Help!?

Electronic Funds Transfer. It is where a member signs up for a membership and there is a monthly fee withdrawn from either a checking/savings account or charge card and deposited directly into your account.

Downtown,

You make money Feb-May.... and pay the rent the rest of the time. EFT's keep the $$$$$$ coming in the off season which is why most salon's give a big discount if the client signs a year contract and accepts EFT.

Who do you use to process your EFT and how do you get started?

There are several companies who do this. You can check the trade magazines or do a search here for names.I do my own through my bank.

Thanks Pam, the only one I have delt with is Telecheck and that is with a fitness center I have worked for and I am not very impressed with them. We should be getting some trade mags that we ordered soon. This should help with a few questions I have had. I am very new to the buisness, but have an experienced partner.

The one I have heard mentioned and seen at trade shows is AAC (I think). There may be other. Good Luck!

What is a membership in most cases? There is one salon in our outlying metro area that charges 19.95 per month, plus fees per visit. That still seems incredibly low.
