I was just wondering if any of you let your customers buy sessions and then share them with other family members. I do not let them share their sessions. I have each customer buy & use their own sessions. I will transfer them if the person that has them decides that they no longer want to tan. Most of the customers have no problem with this policy. However, I have one customer that really blasted me for this policy. I have only had my salon for a little over a year. I would appreciate any feedback or info that you could share with me over this topic. Thanks!

We have no sharing or transferring of packages. If you allow them to share or transfer packages then they buy less, you get less money.

Not to mention the issue of overexposure risks that might be involved or giving unwanted access to someone else's package with a liberal tanning system.

Put it on your sign up agreements. Have never had anyone give us much trouble about this at all...

No sharing here either. Allowing multiple tanners per client "screen" will screw up the tracking of a clients tanning history. You'll never know who has been tanning for what time. I have had some clients get upset by this policy also.

We do allow sharing of session packages. Everyone must tan using their own name. My software has a feature to do this and it records each person's visit on their own client screen. It shows the total visits used on the package owner's screen with sharer in a different color. More people using the package means the visits go faster. It works fine for us.

We allow sharing of min./session pkgs. Not to everyone though, mostly families who are going on vacation. Two young teenagers will not be allowed to share. We explain why they can't share and they don't have a problem. H.P. sessions can be shared if you buy 10 or more. Seems to work good for us too.

I have one package set aside that can be shared by 2 people, but it is a large package and they usually split the sessions half and half. I have a sign posted on the wall behind the reception desk stating that packages are non- transferrable. Never had a problem yet. Also if they do share they each have their own form that they fill out and we keep track... both on the card and in the computer.

I let the clients share packages. I agree that the visits just go by quicker. I also put this on an individuals screen under their name. I think some people get upset if they cannot share. I am the only salon that lets people do this and the customers appreciate it!

I let families only share. They each have their own member # on my software & we divide the times up at purchase time. I use a transfer in/out code to do this. I have let a couple boyfriend/girlfriends do this but I think I need to put a stop to that or everyone will be doing it sooner or later. I am thinking of setting up a larger share w/friend package but charging more for it.
The families doing it I know will be buying more, so they just use it up quicker.

Since our software is exclusive for our salon, we allow our tanners to share packages. Each customer has their own file and we just split the sessions into each person's file. We put a notation on the purchase screen that it is being split and who has authorization to use the tans. We have several families that take advantage of this and several friends who do as well. We find that they actually buy more, since one friend will buy one package and when it runs out, the other friend buys the next. They also sometimes share lotions, which just means they buy more often...

Keeping the customers happy is the main focus...IMHO.
