2003 has come and gone leaving us to do our year end financials and numbers. In doing so I would like to share something with all of you.

Last year our product sales increased by 30% over 2002. Our total revenue increased by 256% over 2002. Our Expenses decreased by 7% nearly $100,000 under 2002 expenses.

I don't share this with you to boast, my intention is hopefully to help other salon owners and managers do the same by sharing what I feel has been our success.

We are an Exclusive Caltan resort. We benefit from the volume rewards program. With that comes free lotions, samples, cal care cleaning products, etc... This has helped our expenses tremendously. Cal Care products has allowed us to cut out cleaning product purchases almost completely.

The Co-op advertising rewards is another cost cutter for us however, these numbers I shared with you "DO NOT" include my co-op advertising reimbursements. That reimbursement amount is approximately an additional $25,000.

Another way of assisting your company in either saving money or making money is to make notations. You will need to use a point of sale program such as Helios or any that allows you to view the transaction history and create your own sales codes. We have created sales codes for our resort staff and our corp staff so that they can make notes on the customers account.

Each time a customer calls our customer service dept or if a clerk talks with them at the desk about their account that employee must make a notation transaction what the customer called about and what was told to them. You can't imagine how much money that has saved us from simply writing them off. If a customer with a balance calls customer service and they are informed of that balance by the CSR who also notates the conversation once that customers goes into the salon to tan she won't be able to make claim to the resort staff she doesn't owe the balance or wasn't aware of the balance.

This procedure just keeps everyone updated on any given situation so that we are all in tune with one another and we aren't just waiving fees and receivables due. I have come to realize just how much money our company and any company could lose due to receivables that people just simply try to get around.

I hope this helps some and I also hope these procedures and programs continue to make our resorts the best in our area as well as the most successful.

Is this just a tanning salon. Expenxes decreased $100,000. How many beds do you have 1000? The last 2 years we have decreased the number of tans, but increased sales Tanning and lotion. Sales are up 10% for the last two years. We are adding 2 spray tanners next month and are expecting sales to increase $50,000 to $60,000.

I don't have a break down, but total rev. has been down the past 2 yrs. Tracie what's the secret to cutting expenses by an average of $20,000 per salon. Unless I work entire shifts 7 days a week I have nothing to cut?

The secret you are looking for is get your goo and cleaning Supplies free or pretty darn close to it.
It is easy!!
Buy a website and in place for ching accept lotion/lamps for banner ads. Also for an added bonus start a co op buyers group for the big boys on the backs of the little guys....Then leave them to fend for themselves. And sit back and enjoy the kick backs from the MFG.
After doing all of this and then some...YOU TOO CAN CUT YOUR COSTS TO THE BARE MINIMUM AND BOAST HUGE PROFITS!! :EYEROLL:

ok, whatever..... for the adults in this forum who really want to know about saving I will be more than happy to discuss this issue. Our savings comes from trained, knowledgable staff members, implementing security policies within the operations of the resort, advertising and how to without spending alot w/ bartering, re-evaluating your commission structures and using rewards programs in their stead, there is more to running a successful business then what MJ references to. Besides, if any salon owner decides to participate in any type of purchasing program that allows them to benefit from their money spent then I believe it is long time coming. Salon owners spend a great deal of money not only for product but the seminars, training, etc... They should get back for their commitments as well.

Thank you for your concern about my salon..I do happened to have the security measures in place.
I also have the educated staff..and happen to be a member of a trade/barter co-op...
Yes I am aware of yours. I am not talking about TRADE DOLLARS here YOU know what I am talking about.

I have nothing personal against you..so let me make that clear. I see things clearly..and happen to be able to read between the lines.

The only company I drum business up for is my own, Sandollar. Others speak for themselves. I don't go "hunting" for Michael or anyone else. Don't patronize me by telling me I'm a good employee, I don't ever need that from you or for you to insinuate that I am Mike's "puppet". I'm sure he is proud of me since I oversee the operations of a successful company and have played a key role in making that happen.

Whatever Michael may be involved in with other ventures you can best guarantee I am way too busy to worry or promote any other aspect of his companies except for the one I am responsible for. And as far as things never changing I guess that means your business success since you are more concerned with "bashing" people than learning a little business sense. That's ok though, the rest of us don't mind increasing our profits, sit where you are and you can tell we will be way ahead of you from the dust in your face.
