I am considering purchasing a (nameless) Sunless Spray booth and would like to hear the truth about them from a users point of view. (PLEASE......no sales hype!). WHich is best? WHy? I have looked at them all and I am unsure who to believe.......i.e., Litigation, streaking, repeat customers, session rates and/or anything that you believe would help in making this decision.

Thanks!

I have tanned in most all of them, and while there are some variations the results were simular and based more on the brand of solution than the brand of booth spraying it. None of the booths gave what would be considered "the perfect tan". However, it`s obvious that they are here to stay and not a fad. AND that the salons with them are making money.

They may be here to stay, but I don't think it will be long before the $2500 to $35.00 fee will have to drop. I've tried one and was minimumly impressed. If I had the money to play around with I'd probably get one, but taking into account the local economy and average earnings of our residents, it would be a big gamble to take out a loan for one. It could cost a client up to $100 per month to keep a "tan" using a misting booth as opposed to perhaps $45.00 in UV equipment. Salons with them now are making money, but when the "new thing" curiousity wears off they'd better hope their units are paid for. I happen to know a salon owner who has a misting booth and still prefers the relaxing atmosphere of a UV session. I think I'll put my money into Chia pets instead.

30 years ago tanning indoors was called a fad that will never last by many people. Didn`t horse owners say that about the automobile? Come on it`s just starting. I agree the session price will ease a bit, But, it`s better to have 30 customers a day at $15 than 10 at $25. Strong income will cover the purchase price quickly. Of course you are better off paying $20k than $40k for the unit. IT is inevitable that prices on the spray units will come down as well...IT`S ALREADY HAPPENING.

St Tropez tanning solution provides a great result. Here in the UK, we manufacture the St Tropez Airport spray booths. We have two types of Manual Booth, (Manual and Flex). Already installed over 400 in 18 months throughout UK with great feedback from salons. Just released our revised Auto Booth and currently going great into Hotel and Gym chains. Taken 2 years to get booth right, but now, superb tans. Extremely even over whole body and a pleasure to get sprayed in, nice and warm, down flow extraction, no plumbing, regular plug/socket power supply. We should be launching in USA next year but currently concentrating on UK and Europe. Reliabilty of booths great. Good looking booth too. Not a sales pitch as we can't sell to you yet. Plus, we just design, manufacture and install them, not sell them.

We have a Mystic Tan in our salon. At first, I was very skeptical about having it. However, now I'm glad we do. Frankly, it's what kept our doors open during the winter! It's been one of the biggest money makers at the salon!

What I like about the Mystic Tan above all the others out there is the MagneTan Technology. Mystic is the only one that offers this. The user stands on a grounding plate, which magnetically draws the mist to the skin. Kinda the same technique used to paint refrigerators! The result is a smooth, even application without having to do a strange dance or poses, nor do they have to rub it in. Also, there's no drying time involved.

My advice is to go around to other salons that offer different types of booths. Look for ease-of-use and coverage. Don't pay TOO much mind to the color, because different salons may use different solutions. (California Tan Suddenly Sun Solution is my favorite!).

Good Luck!

If you wish to look into a sunless, you have to look at all of the makers of sunless. Each has it's own unique hype with options. Look for quality and not the price. Look at the history of the booth. Some have a long history of issues. Don't be foled by the advertising.

EzJim gave his point of view. Club gave his. In all fairness don't forget the others too. You might be surprised. Here is my view:

We use the Magic Tan booth and just picked up the Airbrush system also from Magic Tan also. We all do our research. We attempt to get the best deal, service contract, etc. Ultimately, what we want is our tanners to be satisfied, money in the registers and virtually hassle free operation. Magic Tan does that for us. Our pricing is consistant with our area, maybe a bit higher than most. Our customers have used, as we have also, just about everyone's spray booths with 25 miles. They say (not us) that the color is fantastic, last longer, smells better than the others they have tried. We agree after we did all our research.

Either way, the other salons are also doing a brisk business using their equipment. As long as the customer is happy with the service and results, we are happy.

The only advise I would give is, check out who has what spray equipment around your area. If you can, talk to some of the spray tanners or operators and ask their opinion of that particular product. You probably want to differenciate your services to gain a bigger market share, however, if the equipment you are considering isn't perceived as top quality by your customers, you may just want to purchase what is working in your area. In any case, a good spray system is worth its' weight in tanners and gold.

Good luck on the research.
