We have just opened our third salon, we are giving our employees a 5% commission on all sales, is that in line with other salons, or is that to much?

We don't give commissions either. I feel like I pay them a great hourly wage and that is part of the job!!!

Hourly rates are all we pay. Most work enough hours without us having to give any extras. We sell lotions to them at cost and sessions free.

employees have to have an incentive to sell FOR you. make it worth their efforts. they see commissions as a bonus and will make them work harder and more efficiently.

I agree with commission, give credit where credit is deserved. Our commission plan is limited to the busy season. I change it up from time to time it maybe a percentage or a dollar amount of each bottle sold. If it has been an extremely crazy day and I have not given any incentive bonuses I will give them a kick back. I will purchase gift certificates from the local nail salon and restaurants as a bonus for a good sales week.

Commissions for higher lotions sales could lead to annoying high pressure sales techniques that may irritate your clients. Make your salon a comfortable employee friendly salon and your employees will be happier and more enthusiastic which includes selling lotions and whatever else you have to offer the public.
