I am seriously considering opening a small spa, my main service will be one spray tanning machine. Theres also a Hollywood Tan opening around the corner . . . .

Rent alone is close to 4000 a month. I will not hire anyone, I will run the shop myself. I want it to be a retreat where people can relax and get their sunless tan. Service will be exceptional:)
Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I am certainly no expert but 4000 a month sounds astronomical for 1 spray unit. Have you figured how many sprays you will have to do a month just to pay rent?

Hi, I know . . . rents in NYC are a fortune. I am looking for a less expensive space but I LOVE the one I found. If I did an average of 350 tans a monthe it would be profitable. Do you think this is realistic? I'm supposed to sign a lease this week.

You are signing a lease this week and you dont know if this is realistic? Back to the drawing board.. if you dont know you are setting yourself up for failure.. What has your business plan told you? What has your research told you? [ This Message was edited by: TikiTan on 2003-05-07 10:20 ]

IF YOU ARE IN A BUSY LOCATION OR HAVE A FITNESS CENTER, OR AN AGGGGRESSIVE AD CAMPAIGN THEN 10 TANS A DAY SHOULD BE EASY WITH A GOOD UNIT. GET ONE WITH A LOTION HEATER ON IT .MY CUSTOMERS LOVE THAT NEW FEATURE. REMEMBER REPEAT BUSINESS IS THE KEY!!!

I am not going to sign the lease! I am just trying to figure out the maximum rent I can pay based on number of tans. I have a business plan and I am told 360 tans a month is average. I was looking for confirmation that this many tans is truly realistic even in a busy area. Which machine has the lotion heater?
Thanks.
