Rep Power: 0 | I'm not sure how to handle this employee situation. I have a 37 year old employee that acts (and dresses) like she's 25. She has been with me for about 2 years. She does her job well and the customers have always liked her. She has a nice body from working out and big hair but she does stick to the dress code. Recently I had a talk with her because some customers were commenting about her "look". I asked her to get longer shorts and to not show so much of her stomach (she ties a knot at the back of her tshirt). She complied but gave me the cold shoulder for about a week. Now her coworkers are talking bad about her because on the weekends she is seen around town in the bars hanging on men (she is married but he doesn't control her too well) and that she is getting a slutty reputation. Last fall she a boob job and she thinks she's really hot stuff since then. Well the latest I heard is that one of the local bars is having a "hot bod" contest and guess who plans on entering! She is starting to gross me out but I know that's not a legal reason to let someone go. She has never been written up for doing things wrong on the job and I just don't know how much I can say about how she conducts herself outside of the salon. I have a very respectable reputation in town and I have concerns that people may start to judge my salon in regards to this person's behavior. I really don't what to get rid of her (especially during busy season) but I'm really starting to stress out over this. Any constructive suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Tammy |

Rep Power: 0 | Could you change to a uniform for all employees? That way you can decide what she and everyone else must wear. And if she won't comply - bye, bye. What someone does outside of work shouldn't have a huge bearing on her job status - unless she's a nun or a judge. There are alot people out there doing things you know nothing about - and it should stay that way. The fact that she does her stuff out in the open in bars - who cares. Just tell her - I don't care what you do when you are not here. But when you are her in my salon, you must comply with my rules. Do you have any rules that she's breaking? Tell her what you expect from her. Maybe do it with your whole staff so she doesn't think you're singling her out. |

Rep Power: 0 | Hahahah this is cracking me up, but I did have a similar situation...... I had an employee that kept on dating different tanners and doin her thing, and they ended up hating her and not wanting to come in when she was here ........ I was in a bad situation......very frustrated....who am I to say who she can and can't date, but I ended up cutting her hours back untill she finally had to give me her 2 weeks notice!! (she was also not a great employee so I was ready for her to go) After she was gone many many customers told me they were very glad to see her go!!! |

Rep Power: 23 | Like redhot mentioned...sounds like you need to enforce a dress code! Have shirts made up..pay for thier first one and if they want others tell them they have to foot the bill..otherwise it could start costing you a good amount of money! Tell them that they have to wear the uniform shirt when they are working..at all times! Be sure to tell them it has top be tucked in and give a length requirement for shorts... This should work and if employee does not comply then give her the 3 times and your out! Good Luck..hope this helps! Christina |

Rep Power: 22 | I understand how you feel... many will tell you that it is not your biz to know what they do outside the job... but if you live in in upscale area like mine that is small... under 10,000 people... everyone knows everyone.. and if one employee is out there acting that way... it IS looked at IN your salon in some way... I feel for you... I cannot tell you what to do... I had an employee... trash, all the way, for 4 yrs... finally she started stealing some and acting wrong in the salon and I had reason to write her up.. I did it in such a way she actually quit the next day.. Thank God! So I disagree that it does not matter what employees do outside work... if it is in a smaller upscale town where people know everyone... it does matter... you cannot do anything about it so much... but it does matter... your business will see it... SO SO SORRY you are facing this... this stinks! |
