Right now I have my software set up that the packages expire 1 year upon them using the first visit.

Do you think this is to long? Should I change it to like 6 months?

Helios does in fact allow expirations. We offer a package of 5 Sunless Tans that must be used within 30 days. Right next to the "ADD 5" there is an option for how many days to expire them in.

I will be in my salon this evening if you'd like me to walk you through the process. 954.772.2709. We slow down a little after 9pm so that'd be the best time. (Close at 10)

Twelve weeks is a good call. I know that the salon I just bought still has outstanding packages from at least 9 months ago! I think I am going to limit them to no more than six months moving forward.

We have pkgs of 5 (2months), 10 (4months) 20 (8 months) and 30 (1 yr). But as long as you find out why the customer is tanning you change the expiry dates. If they are tanning for a tan, then the time frame is great, however we have some that tan for medical reasons and the 4 months may not be long enough, as they arent coming in as often. Adapt to your customers needs. If it is for medical or other reasons, we ask them if this will be long enough, or students who only come home on weekends, the same thing. In October, our year end, we go thru our cards and put a big red line across those that expired prior to September, then when the customer comes in sometime in January and says "I think my sessions expired, we tell them if there is a big red line across the card, the accountant has taken if off the books and there is no way for us to extend it. For income tax purposes, this is a liablility you don't want at tax time. We have never had a customer argue.

I just bought a salon (Sept 02) that has NEVER used expirations on their visit cards!!!! Cards out there from 8-9 years ago! I posted a sign advising the old cards would expire 12/31/02.... Still seeing a few of them and usually swap to our card to build good will. Now all visit plans expire 1 yr from purchase. Of course I have 1, 3, 6, and 12 month unlimited memberships now that were never marketed in this salon before. Not using a software application just yet. Looking at the SunEase. Don't like the idea of ETS having access to my client list through Helios. Creative ideas and suggestions welcome from all you experienced salon owners and managers...I know your out there!

A great idea I was given was to have visits expire in 60 days, but if they buy a new package before old one expires, tans left go on next package.
