Are you excited about what you do? C'mon, be honest. This time of year for me is really hard because the funds are low, business is s-l-o-w and I allow myself to get lulled into complacency. GUESS WHAT! It is contagious. When I am complacent so is my staff. It is time for me to get excited again. I need to get myself pumped so they will get pumped.

Attitude is contagious!

What do you do to give yourself an attitude adjustment? Let's all help each other.

Pam

You are right Pam...attitude is contagious. I know there is not alot to do right now so I do try to set the example and get into the heavy duty cleaning.....hoping they will follow and do at least a little extra.

We like to set goals with gift certificates available to those who achieve their goal. Sometimes goals are personal, sometimes they are total team, sometimes salon vs. salon.

Putting all kidding aside here on this subject.. It is important to be developing this time of year with your team how to handle objections your guests may have to buying your services and products.
Go read Ask Don.. We need this to win.
If you are unable to attend Nashvilles talk with Don..
Buy the tape and share it with your staff.you will want this tape so you can continue to use it through-out the year.

Training on guests objections will help you be strong when season rolls in..

Go to Nashville. This is the best way to recharge your batteries.

I always come back from a show really recharged. But if you can't go to the shows, you should be studying all the manuals and getting the place spruced up. Sitting on my fanny doesn't get me going. But if i get up and do some extra cleaning, and get my brain to thinking of new things I always get a little giddy and it does get to the others around me.

Use this slow time to get creative and do something that will shock your customers into spending their money.

I know it's too late for anyone to use this now but maybe you can use it in the future. We had our second annual Halloween sale where everything in the salon is 31% off for one day only.

We don't advertise it outside of the salon but for two weeks prior we put signs in the rooms saying that there will be a big sale that they don't want to miss. I think my wording goes something like "We don't want to scare you but this sale is so big it might actually make you scream". We also make phone calls to those people that are low on lotion and tanning time and they appreciate getting notified so they do come in.

Anyway, this year we made just under $10,000.00 in one day. That's pretty good at this time of year when a normal day in October would be $700 - $800.

Normally, that's way more of a discount than I would give but it really gets people crazy. It's helpful if you type out a chart showing what the regular price is and what the discount price is. When they see the savings, they buy more than they thought they would.

So pick a day, pick a number, and start promoting! Sometimes it's not even about how much money you can make in one promotion but to show your generousity to those folks are still there with you at this time of year.

Good Luck, Tammy

You are right, Tammy. We give alot of discounts this time of year because these are our year-rounders who keep us going. It really is important to let them know we appreciate them all year round. What do some of the rest of you do this time of year to say thanks?
