Rep Power: 28 | May is Skin Cancer Prevention Month WASHINGTON--May has been designated National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). For indoor tanning salons, that can only mean one thing--more media coverage and more news regarding the "dangers" of the sun. Now, however, with the wide range of information on the benefits of sunlight available to salon owners, managers and employees, clients will have an answer to the question, "Will tanning hurt me?" Since January, LOOKING FIT has done a number of articles on the benefits of ultraviolet radiation--one of the top effects of indoor tanning. In addition, SunWellness magazine--a new magazine for the tanning customer published by LOOKING FIT--has expounded on the benefits of moderate and responsible UVR; benefits that are as limitless as the reported risks offered by the AAD, the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society. In the January issue of LOOKING FIT, a study by German doctors provided an argument that routine exposure to UVR would change the performance capabilities of Olympic athletes with results ranging from less injuries to reduced recovery time on injuries. How is that for benefits? This study could do wonders for those tanning salons located near, or in conjunction with, health clubs and fitness centers. The effects of vitamin D--which is produced more rapidly with UVR exposure such as from a tanning bed--on osteoporosis and coronary heart disease were explained in February and March respectively and the April issue of LOOKING FIT offered information on UVR and breast cancer. With medical studies offering valid proof, these articles perfect information pieces for the tanning public. Having this kind of information available to the public is not only good for manufacturers and distributors, it is good for salons. It shows a commitment to the industry and to the business they are trying to promote. In addition, information regarding skin cancer--how to detect it, what it looks like and how it is treated--can be found through the National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society or the AAD. For more information on the benefits of sensible, moderate and responsible exposure to UVR or to download these articles, go to www.lookingfit.com or www.sun-wellness.com. |

Rep Power: 26 | Mitzi: The information in the Looking Fit articles I wrote will be included in a comprehensive summary of data that substantiates my premise that for every one (1) person who dies prematurely each year because of the adverse effects of OVEREXPOSURE to UVR, over one hundred (100+) people die prematurely each year because of the adverse effects of UNDEREXPOSURE to UVR. Where can you get this "landmark" information (you ask)? The attendees of the "Ask Don" talk in Nashville will get a "pre-publication" copy in their "hand-out" material!
