Rep Power: 26 | FYI To Ask Don's Army: An article by Geller, et al, in the current Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) showed that deaths from CMM (cutaneous malignant melanoma) in people 20 - 44 years has dropped significantly over the past 30 years. Death rates fell 39 percent in women and 29 percent in men (in this age group) although the overall death rate from CMM increased slightly. The medical profession credits their education campaign for this reduction in mortality but there is another possible explanation. The growth of the indoor tanning industry has paralleled this decrease in CMM and since more women then men patronize tanning salons, this would explain why there would be a greater reduction in women than in men. If you are interested in learning why Photo-Induced Protective Pigmentation (PIPP) (c) which, as you know, is better known as a tan, plays a critical protective role in the prevention of CMM, YOU WILL HAVE TO ATTEND MY TALK IN NASHVILLE! I'll tell you the scientific reason (in plain terms) for what is going on so that you, in turn, can explain it to your clients. Will you be there to hear this exciting news?
