Rep Power: 0 | Last night I closed the store with our 18 yr old employee. Her boyfriend was supposed to pick her up but he was a no show. She called and he was sleeping! I offered her a ride home but she insisted she could get someone to come get her. Said she didn't want to inconvenience me! Like sitting there with her wasn't an inconvenience! A friend finally got there 20 minutes after we closed. Now it was a nice night and I didn't really mind waiting with her but I sure wish she had her own transportation! |

Rep Power: 25 | Worse than the employee who has no ride home is the client that gets dropped of for that last tanning session, and you have to sit there and wait for their ride to come back and pick them up. |

Rep Power: 24 | One of the questions I used to ask when interviewing was "Do you have adequate transportation to and from work?" Sometimes I would clarify. But you cannot, ever hire, fire or deny employment on the basis that someone does not have a car. But you can inquire if they have the means to get them to and from work. Just can't ask how... it's a tricky world. Next time, tell her it's more of an inconvenience to sit there... you'd rather bring her home. We were never allowed to give minors a ride home after work... however, when it's ten o'clock at night on a school night and a 15 year old kid is sitting there with NO RIDE in sight for hours and the phone at home rings and rings... it was time for me to break the rules. |
