Rep Power: 23 | Do you think it would be disrespectful or not? I didn't really think about it until today so it's really kind of too late for this year. But I thought that I could do a tan free day on that day, $1 samples, or something like that. Any thoughts? |

Rep Power: 23 | I think that would be in poor taste. Let the day pass without any specials-- the day's meaning has nothing to do with tanning. Wear red, white, and blue if you want to show that you are thinking of the day. But I would be appalled if I walked into a tanning salon, hair salon, grocery store, etc. and they were running Sept. 11 "specials". |

Rep Power: 23 | I don't think it would be disrespful at all. I bet tons of business will have something. At least one lotion line came out with a lotion oil spray for 911. Several of the lotion lines donated to one fund or another. I like, do your samples for $2.00 and all the money going to xyz fund for 9-11. So, you could do (just for the day) $2.00 to tan in any bed, these loiton samples $2.00 all to be donated to xyz, plus...if you donated blood to the red cross etc, and have it marked on their card, tan free. becka |

Rep Power: 23 | Personally, I think the idea of a 9/11 "special" is tacky. $1 samples or $2 9/11 tans is tacky tacky tacky. It's something else entirely to donate funds to a charity or whatever. Stating that you are donating all proceeds from XYZ to a specific fund is more appropriate. It's less of a sales generation pitch and more of a tribute because the $$ isn't going into YOUR pocket. |

Rep Power: 24 | I don't recall specials being offered on December 7th. It would be different if you didn't call it a "special" but perhaps called it a tribute. If you offered a tribute as becka suggested and donated the proceeds to a fund that supports the victims of 9/11 that wouldn't be tacky. However, be careful of the tone you'd do for something like that. It is a somber day, not a festive one. It's not Independence Day where we celebrate anything. It's a day of mourning and rememberance. (I'm even getting choked up writing this.) It would even be okay to wear Patriotic clothing or decorate... but remember, there are still people like me out there who still cry at the site of the NY skyline. It would make my heart ache and i probably wouldn't function really well if my salon owner decided she needed to observe 9/11 in such a fashion. It's still way to tender for me. |

Rep Power: 0 | Just my two cents..... Not a good idea, usually specials are associated with celebration. This is truly nothing to celebrate! I too would be offended if any company had a sale or special for this occasion. Maybe stating that some of your sales proceeds for the day will go to a 9/11 fund would be ok, but not necessarily a day to celebrate. It is a day to remember - to never forget - to remind us of our freedoms, our heros, and our lost friends - our lost Americans! I don't believe there is one individual in America today that is looking forward to Wednesday. This date will continue to open old wounds and pour salt into those that have not healed. A part of all of us should never heal, if we heal we tend to forget! The innocent souls sacrificed that day should remain in our hearts forever! |

Rep Power: 24 | Shallee, I do want to thank you for being brave enough to post about such a sensitive topic. I'm sure out there is someone who is planning a sale or a special that day. If nothing else, bringing this out into the open and allowing for free discussion is what we need to do. Thank you for being the person to take that step so many of us couldn't or wouldn't take. |
