FYI To Ask Don's Army:

This is the first of a multi-segment post that will discuss the "core" issue that faces the indoor tanning industry. Our discussion will end with a recommendation that I think that you will all find VERY interesting and exciting.

After enough of you have responded to the various questions I will pose, we will go on to the next segment (you didn't think that I was going to do ALL the work, did you?).

So, let's get started!

Question 1: What "image" does the word "tanning" have in the mind of the majority of the American public when they hear it?

Not what we want to hear but.....burning and overexposure is how they(general public) see getting tan.

Good answer, Teresa.

Sunburning and tanning are "linked" in the mind of the American public and not in the way we would like it to be linked, i.e., that tanning reduces sunburning.

Who is next!

Most non-tanners in the Midwest think that indoor tanning = Cancer. Most tanners think that they can only get a good tan in salons with "hot" bulbs and if they burn. Being a new salon owner, I can't tell you how many people complain about the lack of tan, and don't use lotion...
My 2 cents...

Kimmee/Steve/Kent:

You are collectively getting close to answering the first question.

Anyone else?

We keep our salon 67 degrees for a reason. I hate those people who say "I didn't get anything the minute they walk out of the bed, I didn't even sweat!!!!" I feel like a broken record...give it 4-24 hours and you don't need to sweat to tan"
