Rep Power: 26 | FYI To Ask Don's Army: A paper in the August, 2002 issue of the British Journal of Dermatology by Osborne and Hutchinson titled "Vitamin D ans systemic cancer: is this relevant to malignant melanoma" is a "must read" article for anyone interested in the protective and antiproliferative effects of the seco-steroid hormone known as vitamin D. The "bottom line of this very technical article is that "Recently, an inhibitory effect on the spread of MM (malignant melanoma) cells has been demonstrated, low serum levels of 1, 25 (OH) 2D3 have been reported in MM patients and the VDR polymorphisms have been shown to be associated with both the occurrence and outcome of MM." The authors (both of whom are dermatologists) stated that "Meanwhile, it would seem mandatory to ensure an adequate vitamin D3 status if sun exposure were seriously curtailed, certainly in relation to carcinoma of breast, prostate and colon and probably also MM." Now folks, old Ask Don isn't the smartest guy on the block but he's smart enough to figure out that the "answer" to reducing the incidence of breast, prostate, colon cancer and cutaneous malignant melanoma is to MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE GETS ENOUGH UVR EXPOSURE! And if I'm smart enough to figure this out, why can't (or won't) the dermatology community? The "bottom line" is that our day will come and sooner than you think! Rep Power: 28 | So many conflicting reports. Why? They want our clients to come to them and pay outragous prices for their "Derm UVR Machines". Yes Don, I see a change coming soon Let's keep marching to the tune folks. |
