Rep Power: 28 | How do you communicate with your staff? Do you have regular meetings? If one is in the "dog house" do you take them aside privately? Are you a friend as well as the boss? If so, how does this work out for you? |

Rep Power: 23 | I am a huge fan of the 1-minute meetings. I think there is a book with that title, "One Minute Meeting". I always took a minute or 2 to touch base with every employee at the beginning of their shift. I would go over the sales goals, daily focus, give feedback, etc. It was also a chance for them to address any concerns that they might have had... Huge staff-wide meetings are effective only when you are implementing large changes or beginning a new season... Otherwise I find when a business is insistent on having monthly meetings, it just becomes a waste of payroll. |

Rep Power: 0 | Mitzi, I have weekly managers meetings to discuss goals, sales, new policies, changes, etc. The managers return to the resort and schedule a resort meeting to implement and discuss the items talked about in our managers meeting. They do work with their staff daily on issues as well as encourage their sales goals. If an employee needs to be spoken with we do take them in a private meeting. We try not make it so formal but make them well aware that this is a verbal warning of sorts if need be. Sometimes a simple conversation can set things back in the right direction. I try to be a friend as well as a boss and I hope that I succeed most of the time. I encourage my staff to come to me with areas they feel I need to improve upon. I can't be a better manager or friend if I don't know what I'm doing is wrong or offensive. By keeping those lines of communication open and realizing I too am human which means I won't always make the best choices I think that helps my staff realize I am one of them! |
