Rep Power: 26 | FYI To Ask Don's Army: An industry friend called to "chastise" Ask Don for getting his dobber down because of the low participation in the various e-Message campaigns. [Note: Aproximately 40 people have sent an e-Message protest to the Orlando Sentinel and 18 have sent a message to Trevor Gray, President of ETS.} He/She/It pointed out that, while perhaps disappointing (Ask Don expected over 100 protests!), they are still the largest "protests" that the industry has ever mounted. (Be satisfied with "half a loaf" he/she/it advised.) If he/she/it is correct, the glass is half full instead of being (as Ask Don viewed it) half empty. How (Ask Don asks plaintively) can we get 100 or more people ROUTINELY adding their combined weight to these protests? Why (Ask Don ponders) are tanning salon owners so unwilling to "get involved" in these important issues? What (Ask Don wonders) will it take to "stop the apathy" and get people involved? When (Ask Don asks hopefully) will tanning salon owners "come of age" as a power in the indoor tanning industry? Don "Searching For Answers" Smith |

Don, FYI we had over 300 different people visit TanTalk yesterday. So far today at NOON we have had over 150 people reading topics. In a months time there are several thousand different people reading. I clicked on each of these. Why is so hard for people to click? Maybe we need an "I voted" icon to appear on peoples profile to show they voted with their email? Similar to going to the voting polls they give you a sticker so you can show others! This might encourage others to vote??? _________________ "BigDog member since April '02[ This Message was edited by: chunn on 2002-08-08 11:58 ] | |

Rep Power: 26 | Michael: When I lived near New York City, I was appalled when a woman was stabbed and killed in front of over 50 people who did nothing to save her life (the killing was "caught" on videotape). When those who had "turned away" were asked why they did not come to her aid, the UNIVERSAL response was that "they did not want to get involved" and so they walked on. When the same people were asked what they would have wanted those walking by to do if it had been THEM that was being killed, the UNIVERSAL response was that they "hoped someone would come to their aid" and save their life! What an incredible "disconnect" from reality! When the same people were asked what they would have done if they had known the person being killed, the UNIVERSAL response was that they "would have come to their aid" and tried to save them. So, it appears that "human nature" dictates that most people are only willing to "get involved" if it is their ox that is getting gored and/or if the ox is owned by a friend/relative. Sad! Solid has designed a "system" that takes most of the work out of protesting and there is still a reluctance to "get involved" in protesting these important issues. The motto of MOST tanning salon owners should be: "I don't want to get involved UNLESS the problem is in my backyard and then I want all of you to drop what you are doing and save my *** even though I am not willing to do the same for you." Rep Power: 27 | The motto should be "I will help you in your back yard cause it may be in my back yard next week" Is there a way to tell if I sent email regarding the ETS? I think I did, but not really sure??? |

Rep Power: 26 | Mitzi: You asked "Is there a way to tell if I sent email regarding the ETS?" I looked at the log and you did send a protest to ETS. Thanks for helping! BTW, Solid has fixed a "glitch" and you will now get an automatic e-mail if a response to your e-mail is sent by the entity we are protesting. My "motto" was: "I don't want to get involved UNLESS the problem is in my backyard and then I want all of you to drop what you are doing and save my *** even though I am not willing to do the same for you" while yours was: "I will help you in your back yard cause it may be in my back yard next week". I like yours better than mine because it reflects the truth but I think that mine more correctly reflects reality. Don "Troubled In Tucson" Smith |

Rep Power: 0 | Mitzi, I found out that the system helps with your problem. If you try to send a second one it tells you that you have already responded. I guess this is what you woukd call idiot proofing! Thanks solid! |

Rep Power: 27 | Thanks for the info Don. Yes it is sad but true that the motto is more like yours in reality. Maybe Just Maybe things will change someday. You would think that after 9/11 this change would be in effect!? Becky I thought of that, but didn't try it. Thanks. I need all the idiot proving I can get |
